In this video, we’re going to talk about stress and fat. What determines if you lose or gain weight with stress?

Does stress cause weight gain, or does stress cause weight loss? It all depends on what is happening with your cortisol and insulin.

Insulin – This is the hormone that converts glucose into fat. It stores excess glucose as fat.

Cortisol – This is a stress hormone that mobilizes glucose, and will increase blood sugar. It will break down the stored glucose in the liver and muscles and converts protein and fat into glucose.

• Acute Stress (Short Term) – lowers insulin which means you would lose weight
• Chronic Stress (Long Term) – increases insulin which means you would gain weight.
hormone that converts glucose into fat.

  1. I overthink 😢I take stress on little things and my weight has decreased alot 😢my body is super weak , having bowl issues, low fat in body and feels like I am weakening day by day 😢…..what should I do . There is nothing in my reports and blood tests.

  2. I’m going through this right now and it’s very frustrating. I eat very healthy and excersise most days. I’m GAINING WEIGHT for no reason. And someone the other day had the nerve to tell me that I’m lying 😡 I don’t know what to do

  3. It's funny because I started ashwaganda and it seems like I'm losing weight. I eat and workout fairly often and healthy. Looking at it seems like cortisol may be inhibiting my weight loss.

  4. Great video

I think when the glucose released by Coritsol is used up – by exercising or walking – you lose weight.

When you are sitting around with high Cortisol releasing Glucose, insulin wakes up to store it all back. Gaining weight.

  5. Still confused how I've lost 20lbs (133lbs to 113lbs and I'm only 5'2") and 15 of those lbs lost in 2.5 months. I've developed anxiety (GAD) and complex PTSD in the past 2 years. I lost my appetite and slowly working on adding more calories but it has proven to be difficult.

I'm working on regulating my stress by meditation, yoga, therapy, etc with some help to my mental state but still have anxiety regularly. I have not gained any weight back nor has my appetite increased.

I see this as long term "stress" but continue to be thin.
