Graves’ Disease Diet: Eat These Foods For Hyperthyroidism

What do you eat when you have Graves’ or hyperthyroidism?

Graves’ is an autoimmune disease that results in an attack on your thyroid gland and the production of excessive thyroid hormone which causes the symptoms of hyperthyroidism.

So what do you eat if you have Graves’ or hyperthyroidism?

What you eat depends largely on what kind of treatment you’ve undergone for hyperthyroidism.

Those who are in the active stage of hyperthyroidism need to be tested for gluten and celiac disease as well as food sensitivities.

Assessing these areas can help reduce intestinal inflammation and may treat your Graves’.

Those who post thyroidectomy or post radioactive iodine ablation will need a diet tailored to hypothyroid patients because these therapies result in hypothyroidism in the body.

  1. Hi, I’m newly diagnosed with Graves’ and am on 30mg methimazole but still not regulated (also have ITP). Mostly, though, I am a vegetarian and am wondering if there are protein alternatives I can have since most of the proteins listed are meat. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

  2. Avoid:
    Gluten
    Dairy
    Refined carbs
    Industrial fats
    Seed oils
    Preservatives
    Alcohol
    Sugar

    Take:
    Probiotics
    L-Glutamine + DGL
    Pepsin + HCL
    Fish oil
    Alphalypoeic acid
    Corsitin with bromine
    Zinc
    Selenium
    Vit D3 + K2

  3. THANK YOU VERY MUCH ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ I AM SUFFERING FROM HYPERTHYROIDISM I AM NOT TAKING ANY MEDICATION YET BECAUSE AS SOON AS I STARTED FOLLOWING GLUTEN FREE SUGAR FREEABD NO DIARY 15 DAYS AGO AM ALREADY FEELING A LITTLE BETTER BESIDE SELENIUM ZINC OMEGA 3

  4. Thank you for saying it isn't easy to reverse, I am so tired of hearing that!!! It is all about management, long work hours and stress are bad, even if you eat well and gluten free, which I do. My mind and body have never been the same.. It is the step child of disease's and not taken very seriously, they just want to RAD or remove it. Also it changed my eyes and face, not severely but enough to be a bummer.

  5. Very accurate Dr…the symptoms you mentioned is exactly what I have..i was diagnosed with graves last Sept..first symptoms was palpitation, fatigue, then loss weight about 12 lbs ..i was placed on methimazole 10mg daily but now was down to 2.5mg daily as per my tsh ,t3& t4 level…and im now struggling with weight gain..8 lbs more than my initial weight before the dx of graves..will try the gluten free diet ..

  6. I have graves and have been following Whole 30 way of eating for last 4 months and feel much better….no sugar, grain, legume or dairy. Take ptu and propranolol but about to get off those. I am going to take myrrh and drink tea for hypert and eat 2 brazil nuts daily.

  7. I'm sure many of these vegetables contain lectins and to my limited knowledge lectins can also be causing the gut-issues that lead to auto-immune diseases? Would a carnivore diet not contribute to better health overall?

  8. Lol I ate those plants, veggies before for 2 yrs and it made things worse, even when I stopped dairy and gluten😂 esp kale! it almost killed me my head almost burst with pain and it was like my skull was metal bound😂 I am never trusting plant-based food for thyroid bec the contents in there are not just the good ones, but also all the toxins in it.

I am good with animal meat only. No issues and healing.

  9. Img this is why I’ve been coughing for the last few weeks. I’ve recently been diagnosed with grave disease. Still being in your twenties is shocking I’m still processing. I hope we all are able to maintain these changes well🙏
