Think you know how to lose weight? In this video, Jonathan from the Institute of Human Anatomy goes beyond the hype to reveal the only metabolic pathway capable of burning fat. Using real cadaver dissections, we explore the difference between “dangerous” visceral fat and subcutaneous fat, while breaking down the three energy systems that govern your body. Common Questions:

What is the difference between white fat and brown fat? White fat stores energy and provides insulation , while brown fat contains specialized mitochondria that burn calories to generate heat.

Can you target visceral fat loss? Visceral fat wraps around organs and is linked to diabetes and heart disease. The video discusses how different exercise intensities influence overall fat mobilization.

Do fat cells disappear when you lose weight? No, fat cells (adipocytes) shrink as they release fatty acids via lipolysis; they don’t actually disappear.

Why is oxygen required to burn fat? Fats can only be broken down via the aerobic energy system through processes like beta-oxidation and the Krebs cycle, which require oxygen to produce ATP.

What is Zone 2 training? It is an exercise intensity (roughly 60-70% of max heart rate) where fat oxidation is physiologically maximized during the activity.

  1. A lot of non sense here. Eat less, exercise more, is not sustainable long term. Calories in, calories out, is a myth. Carbs are an essential nutrient…oh really?

  2. 17:32 I am 127 BPM for 70% Zone 2 as a 39 yo male 5'8" 17% fat 22 BMI (yes google already knows), which most people have a high probability to never know this number. The whole "know thyself" is real. Know your metabolism and chemical composition. You absolutely CANNOT listen to fitness influencers cause their body is different. When someone says "This exercise built my Caves/forearms/etc." You have no idea his testosterone levels compared to your or your metabolism. Everyone should really start with their height and weight and a calculator. It's a deep rabbit hole from there, all about your body. Nobody in your ancestral in history could do it, especially for free, but you can. For me, it's as easy as 3.5 – 4.0 speed walk on the treadmill. The average baseline for you would be the whole "talk test" that you should be able to hold a conversation at your zone 2. Aim for 30-45 mins to maximize fat oxydation, feels amazing afterwards tbh. If you ate a pastry of 200+ kcal pure carbs, you have control. You can literally google this percentage for each of your favorite exercise. You can jog/walk intervals to burn more percentage of carbs than fat, you'll feel like shit though unless you do 25 mins or so and get a runners high. My high hits very early at 14 mins (2 miles for me) because I used to be an elite runner. I have a slipped disc in my spine and adjust to the exercises I CAN do. I miss hiking a % incline but that fcks my slipped disc. Anyway all you have to do is like 3 or 4 days a week. Look at a label for nutritional info. If you have a label clearly spelling out kcals, carbs, etc. You're already failing cause it's processed. If you still crave it, know what those 200 calories will require walking 4.0 mph for 45 mins to 1 hr depending on your melabotic rate and that's only to MANTAIN YOUR CURRENT FAT after eating that processed pastry. Gym Bro? That's 1 hour to 1hr 30mins of weight lifting to burn, and you only got carbs from the pastry no other nutritional value no protein. You don't don't have to track every single calorie, just have a baseline like, 200 kcal + of 31g carbs nothing else, not for me. YOU DO NOT HAVE THE WILL POWER, don't count it. Set your self up for success by not buying any of that shit and bloating yourself with low carb/fat veggies like cucumber with Tajin, lean into mexican and asian habits they're in better shape than americnas for a reason, google wtf Tajin is. Drink 0% carbonated waters (not soda) like La Croix and cheaper off brands to bloat yourself. Replace your pantry's processed label food with these while you watch shows or play videogames. The ultimate hack is watching and playing video games on a foldable mini treadmill in front of the TV They're like $200 at amazon. Seriously you can rot your brain on the phone in bed or couch or you can rot your brain walking on the treadmill, your choice. Last thing is to walk withing 10-30 mins after eating every meal to avoid the insulin spike storing fat in your belly, and that doesn't count towards the actual workout, that's just how it should be.

  3. I'll never use a picture and AI to track my calories, there's no way it can know how much fat is/has been used, and ALL the ingredients involved. I could drop a spoonful of that high calorie powder into a cup of milk and it wouldn't know any better.

  4. I like the depth of explanation including the real life (or actually, dead) examples. The apparent scientific background gives reason to explore further. So on to the downloadable ebooks.
Unfortunately I keep clocking in subjects that are no longer available. Tired of going through a library with empty book covers. Costs me time for nothing. And does not inspire trust at all.
Please make true what you advertise. Don't show empty shells.

  5. My three non-negotiable pillars…. 1)quality sleep, 2)quality food, 3)regular exercise. Everyone has time for all three; it’s just a matter of priorities.

  6. 7:03 thank you for explaining about this 3 levels-my wearable has this when in workout mode, but I don't know how the software works-
now I think I have at least an idea how it works.
    😊😊
I should maintain at the aerobic level more than the anaerobic.

now I also know, where I can use that Krebs cycle😂
I changed field to engineering after bio-foundation.

  7. Just make sure you are doing a calorie deficit. It will burn it. If you exercise, you tend to eat more anyway. Exercise is good for muscles and skin recovery during calorie deficit, but definitely they are not the priority. Priority is eating less.

  8. This is meaningless because you don't talk about hunger. That is the real key. Lose weight without getting hungry…. All videos that doesn't master this is trash.

  9. Food is psychological. People don't want to change what they eat. In weight loss, Diet is 80% and Exercise only 20%. Level 3 exercise usually results in eating more food than burned. This video completely neglects diet, the biggest factor in weight loss. Write down your macros daily!

  10. Health shonks and grifters make easy money from our "eyes on the screen". Folks, use Google AI for your health queries. It's honest and reputable.

  11. What confuses me is how is fat being burned in the presence of insulin. In order to provide all of those carbs for the activity wouldn’t insulin be secreted when the carbs were eaten?

  12. I lose most fat at rest, when fasting. As soon as I work out, I must refeed. I'm a fit, slim person, and your video makes complete sense. I am a power walker and hiker. I find high-intensity training not my thing, but I can walk fast for hours.

  13. i was so interested in this video until you advertised an AI app. really? that's not scientific. and this company has a history of advertising with stolen songs and tiktok videos of young girls, pairing them with harmful messages about counting calories and body checking. this app is not shy about weaponizing insecurities of young people and its sad that you are supporting them. Shame.
