  1. I once weighed 272 and over many years and diets I lost 50 pounds and kept it off for about 10 years. Last August I started losing weight again and I'm down another 29 pounds and still going. I cut out almost all prepared foods, all white flour products, all sugar, potatoes, and other things that elevate my blood sugar. I've improved my A1c from 6.4 to 6.1 and my non-fasting glucose was 81. My HDL has improved along with other cholesterol readings. I hope to get my weight down to 150. I feel like that's plenty low enough, even though I'd still be considered overweight. I don't feel like a bit of overweight is that bad for me, although I might keep going if it feels right. I'm an 86-year-old woman from a family that tends to live to old age. My brother passed last year at 95, still having an active mind and body until the end. I've been following the exact type of diet you're suggesting, higher fat, high protein, low carb diet.

  2. Dr Becky, Im 62, obese and suffering from Scarpenia, what do you suggest? im too weak to walk any long distances and find myself out of breath just walking around the corner. Im really struggling and giving up. I need a solid plan i can stick with and not give like i find myself doing every time. Please reply if you can, thank you

  3. I’m 65 and I tried intermittent fasting and enjoyed it but then I got a vestibular migraine because I wasn’t eating regular meals , now I’m trying a calorie deficit and regular exercise , but honestly barely any result on the scales although I feel healthier 😢

  4. The sugar craving is always there. I've lived off chocolate bars, chips and cookies as meals rather than food in the past. i have areal sweet tooth. But at 61 I'm determined to break the habit and lose weight. I'm aiming for 70lbs in 12 months to start. Wish me luck and any tips gratefully received. I believe its now or never!

  5. I am having a lot of challenges with weight loss. I can't excercise like I could when I was younger. I am discouraged now where I don't think I'll never get the weight off. I feel everything is turned upside down to. Then when I lost weight my sugars dropped too low. Then I want to lose weight.

  6. Wish it were that easy. I'm 62 and I've done all of those things mentioned…increased healthy fats, decreased sugars and refined carbs and intermittent fasting. While I did lose some I'm down to trying to lose the last stubborn 10 lbs but can't seem to get it off. I'm being told it may be due to muscle loss which is causing my metabolism to slow down. How do I fix this without going to the gym?

  7. Start with your BMR on a calculator. That will shock you. Put in what it was 20 years ago. 100 calories makes a huge difference. And the sugar aspect is very true. And remember, hunger without sugar means your body is losing weight.

  8. Me personally, I started losing the most weight after reading the book Woman’s weight loss secrets: the unspoken truth, a few things you are mentioning in this video are also in the book

  9. What you forget to warn people over 60 is that their gallbladders are no longer capable to process all this extra fat. To avoid severe gallbladder pain, they should supplement with ox bile should they have problems. I found out the hard way.

  10. Hi Dr.Becky…Am still a little confused as to how this is any different from Atkins which landed me in hospital on a cocktail of I/V antibiotics with excruciating Diverticulitis? Am a senior..Intermittent Fasting I’ve been doing a lot of for the last 6 months..with no sugar, junk, bread, processed foods, alcohol etc. Was losing weight (3.5 stones) despite limited exercise due to mobility issues..but since a two month bout of complex illness..my weight has just stalled during that whole time! However, for the first time ever, I didn’t put it back on! I’m exactly halfway on my weight journey..Been shifting my fasting window about a bit, but mainly do 20/4 ..This seems to suit me well generally..but am wondering if there’s anything else you can suggest that isn’t zero carbs..as it’s too risky for me with what happened before and previous Crohn’s? Many thanks. 😁👍

  11. As a plus 70 yo woman who has has been overweight her entire life I have found that a LCHF diet works but I have changed up 2 things : I have increased the protein and increased my intermittent fasting – although not for everyone , my normal fasting is usually 42 to 48 hours, no side effects, feel good and have continued to lose weight. I am more aware of what & when I' m eating than before. Have lower my BP and all lipid tests are within normal range !!

  12. I've been following you, Dr Gillaspy, for a long time. My husband and I are both in our 60s and we eat well now, and stay away from carbs and sugar as much as we can. We thank you for what you do. My one question. What about alcohol? Can you do a video about it? So now the kids are grown and moved out, we have a really enjoyable social life. We bought a hottub, and we meet friends at the local breweries on the weekend. It's nice on a fri nite to hit the hottub at 5:15 with a glass of wine or a cold beer. But is that putting weight on us? and who wants to go the brewery and sit there and drink water. So what are your suggestions for the lowest carb/sugar drinks that we can still enjoy the fun without putting the pounds on? Thanks Judi & Mike
