Biomedical scientist Dr Rhonda Patrick reveals why most people can’t lose belly fat no matter what they do, and explains that the real problem is not calories or sugar but visceral fat causing insulin resistance that your body cannot fix through dieting alone. She breaks down why visceral fat is one of the major causes of insulin resistance, not a symptom of it, and why focusing on glucose levels without addressing visceral fat is missing the real problem entirely.
She explains why only aerobic exercise like running, cycling, and swimming actually burns visceral fat, and why resistance training and weight lifting, while beneficial for metabolism, don’t move the needle on the dangerous fat wrapped around your organs. She reveals that exercising in a fasted state produces better adaptations than exercising fed, because your body is forced to mobilise fatty acids from visceral fat stores and burn them for energy.
She shares her personal experience of becoming pre-diabetic as a new mother despite eating a healthy diet, purely from the stress, sleep deprivation, and reduced physical activity of early parenthood, and how she used high-intensity interval training to reverse it. She reveals that women experience an 8 to 10 percent annual increase in visceral fat starting two years before menopause as estrogen plummets, and describes how it appeared on her own body almost overnight.

I find this interview to be very misleading. In my mid 50s I lost 30 pounds and got back in shape by hiking at least two days a week (at least 6 miles) on hilly terrain. Two or three times a week I was also lifting for more than an hour. Because I was pre-diabetic when I started this project. I was constantly checking my blood sugar. You burn way way way more blood sugar, lifting weights than you do hiking or running or jogging or swimming or anything else aerobic. You burn at least twice as much sugar lifting. Believe me, I was monitoring my blood sugar 24 seven.
My 5's & 9's Program:
9PM-5AM: Sleep/ Meditation Period
5PM-9AM: Intermittent Fasting Period
9AM-5PM: Eating and Work(Job) Period
5PM-9PM: Aerobic or Anaerobic Exercise Period
Used this program with some flexibility for a year and lost 70 lbs.
A quien creer.🤷♂️

Really enjoyed this educational podcast.
My parents were medical doctors. Old school. They graduated in medicine in the late 1950s and practiced until 1995. I remember them constantly saying that fat kills insulin and testosterone in men… It seems that this was known even at the time. What amazed me was their opinion that fat is actually an organ that interferes with metabolism…

A vicious circle
No answer….. click bait
I listened until she started talking about aerobic versus anaerobic exercise. I believe everyone has their own unique ability to lose belly fat. Stop listening to the experts and learn to listen to your body. 🫡
Good info.
This was a horrible video. Visceral fat doesn't cause' insulin resistance is exacerbated it. As Dr. Joesph Kraft found, the vast majority of people he tested (14,000+) are biologically diabetic and it has nothing to do with exercise. Exercise when you are younger masks the diabetic damage and hides the symptoms that will eventually show up. Should also look at Professor Tim Noakes experience. A long term ultra distance runner would do multiple miles a day. And he became a 'diagnosed' diabetic. He explains that he evaluated his blood work in his mid to late 20's after learning the real science and it was glaring. The glucose/insulin response to various nutrition programs and exercise showed that he was a biological diabetic although not diagnosed as the time. But the cake was in the oven regardless of how much exercise he was doing.

Hmm…the aerobic stuff is opposite of what other experts have said. Resistance exercise in building muscle expends more energy in the long term.
I hope all useful YouTube channels will support Arabic voice dubbing. This will benefit both parties, reaching as many people as possible worldwide and gaining many more subscribers and viewers for the channel.
lol incorrect, Visceral fat is the last thing to go
This was a fantastic conversation. I know I need to lose weight, I'm 60, 5'6 at 180. but I do have muscle weight. Especially in my legs. I need to get more sleep during the week and eat less at night. I do the overnight fast until lunch next day. I joined a gym for aerobic exercise. I also have hypo thyroid.
Increíble, información que sana 👌🏼
Fat doesn’t make you insulin resistant!!! Full stop. Constant eating snacking non stop mean you trigger insulin constantly. Stop snaking, second get rid of the sugar, cut down your carbs.
Everything today in the shop is full of sugar and carbs. No protein
This is absolutely me! No matter what I eat I am exhausted ten minutes later. Can't sleep until I sleep for 12 hours and then the cycle starts again. What a shame Dr's have absolutely no interest in diet and just want to keep you sick and make money from you!!! But the AMA are taught to make money and sell petrochemical pharmaceutical crap!!!
I started my monthly at 9 and didn't go through menopause until 55. My mother went through menopause at 36!
Type one or type two diabetc!Big difference!
They found by feeding rats 30% less they lived 1.5 x as long.
She lost me at “resistance training doesn’t move the needle.” 😑
Does drinking coffee with a little half n half break your fast in the morning? I’m doing a 23 hr fast. I eat at noon

After I read the comments, I did not waste my time listening to this. Thank you viewers. 🙂✝️
I'd argue that loosing that fat is easy, even with fasting.
So, sleeping hours count for fasting?
She sounds like she has a eating disorder
Good segment….thanks for taking the time and sharing
Surgical menopause; you are right the fat distribution change is over night! Add hrt and watch it change again very quickly
So you’re saying you don’t know what “resistance”means🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
I cannot believe she is 47 I thought she was 32yrs old. Wow. She looks amazing.
I eat a VERY clean, no substances, I ONLY drink water, coffee (with no sugar) and tea. A very strict low carb diet, routine moderate exercise, and I literally fast 16 hours per day. Most people couldn't sustain this long term, and honestly I don't know what is the driver that enables me to do it.
I'm nearing 53.
I can share that I have high stress and a very active brain during the entire day, including when its time to sleep. Actually, especially when it's time to sleep.
That cortisol is no freaking joke. I think lack of proper sleep can't be stressed enough.
What should be the diet if you skip first meal. ?
Like coffee is what we all have and many say not to have it on empty stomach.
So how to break the meals.
I am on OMAD only 5-8 pm eating window. With coffee twice a day one early morning after 2 hours of wake up. But it’s not helping, may be it’s doing bad to my metabolism.
I do resistant training moderate after last meal and to bed with golden milk.
I am still 108 kg
thank you. can you please do a talk on perfumes and their negative effects on us. i can't believe how perfumes are permeating every aspect of society.
