How To Lose Weight On Tirzepatide (Doctor Who Takes It)

My own result: 225 → 155 lbs. That’s my body — not a typical result. Individual results vary and most people lose less.

Educational only, not medical advice. I own and operate the telehealth practice linked below, so treat this as advertising as well as education.

What I prescribe through my practice is compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide from a licensed pharmacy — not brand-name Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, or Zepbound. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved and have not been evaluated by the FDA for safety, effectiveness, or quality the way the brand-name product has.

⚠️ SAFETY — READ THIS: Semaglutide and tirzepatide carry a BOXED WARNING for thyroid C-cell tumors. Do NOT use if you or a family member have had medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2. Other serious risks include pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, kidney injury, and severe GI side effects. See full FDA prescribing information before starting.

These are prescription medications. A licensed provider reviews your history and determines whether you’re a candidate — not everyone qualifies. Available only in states where our providers are licensed.

📺 HEADS-UP: This was filmed as one long video — the full cut ran almost 25 minutes, so I shortened it and split it into three parts to keep it easy to follow. You’re watching Part 1. The full series is live:
▶️ Part 2 — Tirzepatide Injection: Are You Doing It Wrong?
▶️ Part 3 — Tirzepatide: 4 People Who Should Never Take It

This medication was built for diabetes — not weight loss. Weight loss was the side effect nobody planned for. I prescribe semaglutide and tirzepatide every day — and I take it myself: 225 pounds down to 155, and still on it. This is part 1 of everything I tell a patient before their first shot.

What we cover:
• My own story — 225 → 155, semaglutide first, why I switched to tirzepatide, and why I’m still on it
• What’s actually in these drugs — semaglutide and tirzepatide, the active ingredients behind the brand names Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, and Zepbound
• Why these were built for diabetes, not weight loss — and how weight loss became the “side effect” everyone remembers
• How it actually works in your body — food noise + delayed gastric emptying → smaller portions → calorie deficit

This is part 1 of 3. Part 2: the shot itself — how to inject, and whether you’re doing it wrong. Part 3: who should NOT take these medications — the hard stops. Both are live — links above.

Most GLP-1 companies only ship you a box and a set of instructions. If you’re in the Dallas area and you’re nervous about your first shot, come into our flagship clinic — NTX MedCare in Allen, TX — and we’ll do it with you, in person, by a real person.

Everything else — go to for the practice and more.

  1. The 225 to 155 line is honest because he says most lose less. I sat on 2.5 for eight weeks instead of jumping, and the appetite quiet held fine. 28 lbs in five months, lifts stayed up with protein near 140g. I order mine from Aureus Research LLC and just keep the titration boring.

  2. I’m a 54 years old male 5’8” 178lbs. I had two heart stents done 14 months ago. Would it be safe for me to take Tirzepatide for weight lose to lose 28lbs I want to get back down to 150lbs. I’ve been traveling the world the last year and it’s been impossible for me to cut my calories because I’m not able to cook my own food so I figured this might be a great way for me to eat less while traveling. My question is with two heart stents done is it safe to take Tirzepatide for weight lose. I’m currently taking three medication aspirin 81 mg EC tablet
    atorvastatin 80 mg tablet
    clopidogreL 75 mg tablet

  4. The line about the two ranking differently in different bodies matched my experience exactly. Semaglutide at 1mg gave me nausea and barely touched appetite. Switched to tirzepatide, held 2.5 for six weeks then 5, and the food noise went quiet around week two. 34 lbs over seven months. What actually moved the needle wasn't the dose though, it was getting protein up near 150g and lifting three days a week, otherwise strength fell off fast. I log batch and COA info from Aureus Research LLC next to my dosing notes so I can tell what changed. Slow titration beat chasing a higher number every time.

  6. I started with ozampic 43 months, and in that period I twelve pounds. Just switched to trizepitite it just started my first dose this Monday. It feels stronger in my body. In terms of the food noise peace.

  7. I’m 66 and on Zepbound through the Bridge program. Started July 9th and am down 20lbs. Currently on 5mg and going to stay on this for as long as posible. I have 100lbs to go and this medication is a miracle for me! I
I was never overweight until I had kids. I gained weight and then never lost it completely without it coming back more. I found out years later that I had hypothyroidism which probably explained a lot. I am now post menopausal and have tried everything I know over the years to lose weight.
When this became available through the program, I almost cried! I only wish the companies that make these meds would lower the price across the board so they become available to more people who need them!

  8. Im 60, former military special ops. I had slowly ballooned up to almost 300 pounds (at 6'1) after I retired from the military. I'd been working out really hard (up to 6 hours on the bike and two days of lifting every week) and although my blood pressure was coming down and I was otherwise benefitting, the weight still wasnt coming off. I was only becoming a 'physically fit' fat guy. LOL. I was getting injured trying to lift more and more weights in hopes that more muscle would help. It was discouraging. Just started Tirzepitide and I'm down 10 pounds in less than a month. Still hitting the gym but its nice to have a little help.

  9. 17months on Mounjaro lose 136lb starting weight was 21st2pound I have high blood pressure type 2 diabetes the best thing i have ever done Tryed all diets it keep me in a calorie deficit

  10. I’ve been on zepbound for a yr and a half and have lost maybe 15 lbs. it takes away the food noise so I don’t eat much but I don’t understand why it’s not working?

  11. I’m 63yo, on Tirzepatide, 6 weeks in, currently on 5mg. Started at 228, currently 217.6, goal = 160. After I stay at 160 for a few months, I will decide if I want to do another 10-15 lbs. My insurance finally approved it when I was diagnosed with moderate OSA. (Now turns out the at-home sleep-test underestimated and I’m in the severe category).

It was the sleep apnea that finally pushed me into doing this, as that 💩 can really ruin your life! I had been thinking about doing GLP-1, but was still hesitant until I got the OSA Dx.

I’m working hard to do this correctly, eating properly, exercising daily and resistance training so I keep muscle (hopefully!). My biggest struggle is getting the high amounts of protein that so many recommend…. 150 grams??! That is a LOT!

Thank you for the great info ❤

  12. Dr. Lee, I was on mounjaro for 5 months in 2025 and lost 65 lbs (low carb, meat based diet and QOD 10% incline treadmill, alternating weights and abs work. Then, 2025 january hit and BAM! Post flu vaccine syndrome and severe menopause related vasomotor Sx and dysautonomia and whole body joint and back pain. Sleepless nights!! I was not well for just over a year. I didn't recognize my healthy active self that I worked so hard for in 2024.

So put back 30+ pounds without trying. Just restarted zepbound, now week 3 and i feel the inflammation has decreasedz especially my lower back! Exercising ramping up again. Diet was never my issue because i never had a sweet tooth, but i think menopause with the constant cortisol activation was the culprit.

Wish me luck, from one MD (nucs/rad) to another!

  13. I’m in early days yet. Just took my 8th shot of Zepbound 2.5 mg. Started July 14, 2026, and as of today have lost 16.1 pounds. So I think I’m on track. No side effects. A tiny bit of food noise returning by day 6, but not sure if I should go up to 5 mg or not. I have always had a lot of inflammation and this seems to be helping that, as well. So grateful for these drugs. Edited to add: I’m 72!

  14. I started reta that i picked upp from Evolve peptides last year and within 6 months i was down over 50lbs going from 240 down to 187 and it has improved my life in so many ways, I can now walk for hours without getting tired and my life has become so much more active and food has somehow started tasting better even though im not as hungry

  15. 49 F, 5’1, 194 starting . 188 going into second week. high everything, obstructive sleep apnea, no big noticeable side effects just have no desire to eat and I’m on 2.5 mg. Nothing sounds palatable. I drink a lot of protein shakes and take all the recommended vitamins and supplements.

  16. Talk about yo-yo dieting! Seems like I've been dieting on and off for years. So much food noise. I can't stand my cravings and almost constant hunger. I feel very strongly that if I started taking terzepitide and followed the diet and exercise guidelines, I could FINALLY lose the weight I need/want. I'm at 227 (5'10") and would like to be down to 160. The only thing stopping me from getting on it currently is cost. But I'm hoping to get on it within the next 6 months. Thanks for this informative video!

  17. Great video! Zepbound has worked for me at age 73. Started with 2.5mg and transitioned to 5mg at week 9 coupled with a very low carb diet. I’m now at week 30 and have lost 101lb. Lower leg edema gone. BP 116/72. All bloodwork in the normal range. Spinal stenosis symptoms much more tolerable, but still present. Lilly Direct has been very slow about approving my Medicare claim, so still paying $400/month for the 4 vials.

If you’re on the fence, I highly encourage you to speak with your physician. In my case, I had to wait several months for an appointment with a specialist, but it was worth the wait!

  18. Great video! I love that as a prescribing MD you have also lost weight from it. I am trying to get Zepbound covered through the BRIDGE Program but running into a wall with our PCP’s staff. I am ready to find a weight loss doctor here in Birmingham and just pay out of pocket! Hubby needs someone besides me telling him about diet and how it works with GLP1’s. He really didn’t lose on Wegovy but the inflammation factor was great. It truly helped with his MS.

  19. Anyone on Medicare and with Part D either through Medicare itself or an add on needs to know about the Medicare Bridge program. GLP-1 for $50 a month with a prescription from your doctor, PA, or NP. Life changing. Now it's not just for wealthy people anymore.

  20. During Covid I lost over 40 lbs. We couldn't go anywhere or do much. Three years ago we bought a house on five acres with a 1.5 acre pond. I gained it all back and then some. I work on our property everyday for hours at a time. I am going on GLP 1 as soon as I receive it from the pharmacy! I definitely get exercise 😂❤

  21. I started my journey on 1/1/25 on Compounded Semaglutide as my insurance will not pay for any weightloss treatments. I started at 367.4 lbs. I did very well on the Semaglutide and lost 97 lbs in 8.5 months. I then had a freak accident and stopped the Semaglutide for 7 weeks to have two surgeries to my right leg. When I restarted medication I decided I wanted to try Tirzepatide . I have done equally well on it, for a total weightloss so far of 199.7 lbs between the 2 medications in 20 months. I currently am on Tirzepatide 7.5mg weekly. I am 5ft2 so I still have 35 to 40 lbs to lose to get to a healthy weight for my height. I am 66 years old and have been overweight and or obese for 53 of my 66 years. I have lost between 100 and 200 lbs either 5 or 6 times in my lifetime, but have never been able to sustain my weight losses so I will be on some sort of GLP1 medication for the rest of my life. I am not doing this again. It is too much work and not healthy to lose and gain over and over. I did well during the 7 weeks I was off my medication as I only regained 1/2 of a lb during the 7 weeks I was off my medication. I have had very few side effects, just some slight nausea with both medications for the 1st couple of weeks. I just was able to sip some Sprite and take a Pepto Bismal Tablet.

  22. HI I just found your channel and subscribed, I started Mounjaro June 1st, 2.5 mg. after 1 month went to 5mg, for2 month after 2 month I am starting 7.5 mg my weight when I started was 305LBS I am now at 268 LBS. I have changed my diet , no food noise , I am 66 yrs old, Feel a lot better.
