I’m still dealing with a tweaked right shoulder that hurts when I do any pressing movements… this is one of the methods I’m using to work around it and with it to get it back in business.
This is an Offset Load Dumbbell Bench Press – I’ve got a 75 lb dumbbell in my left hand and literally a FIVE pound dumbbell in my right hand.
The heavier side gives a stronger training stimulus, obviously, but the five pound dumbbell is so light that I can do a full range of motion with the injured side.
There IS carryover (specifically via the nervous system) between the two sides of your body.
You can actually still the SEE the activation in my right pec, even with an extremely light weight.
This type of training serves two purposes… maintain strength in BOTH sides of the body and keep the injured side moving so that I can circulation through the area.

Circulation is absolutely key to recovery.
In my experience (based on a doctors advice that I got 30 years ago when I had a bad ankle injury), I’ve found I get better recovery results by keeping the area moving through a good range of motion and under at least a light load.
The key for me is to let pain be the guide… if it’s a sharp pain, I don’t do it. If it’s more of a dull ache, I’ll do it with very little resistance and focus on just moving the joint (like I’m doing here).
That being said, that’s ME and my own way of moving forward with recovery.
