Why can she eat more than me and still stay slim? Your food choices, body composition and daily movement all influence the answer—and this is where I help my clients.
Different foods do different jobs. Protein-rich foods support your skeletal muscle, while vegetables and other fibre-rich foods help you enjoy generous, satisfying meals.
Understanding how to combine them can support fat reduction while leaving room for eating out and a good social life.
Your body composition includes both skeletal muscle and body fat. Reducing excess subcutaneous fat-the fat beneath your skin-while preserving skeletal muscle can help you look leaner and firmer.
As body fat comes down, your skeletal muscle percentage can rise, even if the actual amount stays the same. Resistance movements help preserve and strengthen that skeletal muscle and can increase it.
Skeletal muscle uses energy at rest, contributing to your basal metabolic rate: the calories your body uses to keep functioning. Preserving it supports resting calorie expenditure; increasing it can raise that expenditure – you can eat more without gaining weight.
Food knowledge and resistance work together. I help you understand what to eat and how to use appropriate resistance to improve your body composition, metabolism and calorie-burning efficiency.
And you can do this AT HOME. I teach you how to use suitable weights or bands with precise technique so that short sessions can achieve quick results, plus clear purpose and progress with you.
Everyday movement also uses energy. This is NEAT: walking around, carrying shopping, standing at work and getting on with your day.
I look at your whole picture: your unique body type, food, body composition and lifestyle. One lunch with a friend only shows a small part of theirs.
We can work entirely from your home via Zoom, or meet in person in Fulham, London. Message MIDLIFE BODY to find out how I can help.
