WEEKEND WEIGHT LOSS STRATEGY: 10,000–15,000 STEPS & A BIGGER CALORIE DEFICIT! | Gen X Life

If you work a 9-to-5 desk job, you already know how difficult it can be to find time for exercise during the week.

Between working, commuting, preparing meals, strength training, and everything else life throws at you, getting your daily steps in can feel like another full-time job!

That’s why I believe weekends are one of the best opportunities to get ahead on your weekly calorie deficit.

🔥 MY WEEKEND FAT-LOSS STRATEGY

As soon as I wake up, I get out of bed and start walking.

At my pace, 10,000 steps takes approximately 90 minutes. That means I can knock out most of my daily step goal before the day really gets started.

Then, between chores, errands, and everyday activities around the house, I can work my way up to 15,000 steps or more.

The result? More calories burned through movement, without having to spend the entire day exercising.

And if I stick to my calorie targets while getting enough protein to support muscle retention, I can create a substantial calorie deficit.

💼 WHAT ABOUT THE WORKWEEK?

I work behind a desk, so I have to be intentional about finding time to move.

Here’s how I make it happen:

✅ Eat lunch at my desk to free up my lunch break.

✅ Keep walking clothes at work.

✅ Walk 2–3 miles during my lunch hour.

✅ Head home, get my strength training done, and eat dinner.

✅ Finish the evening with additional steps when needed.

It’s a lot to fit into a workday, which is exactly why I take advantage of the extra flexibility on weekends.

💪 THE BIG PICTURE

Fat loss comes down to maintaining a calorie deficit over time. Walking helps increase your daily calorie expenditure, and consistent nutrition helps keep that deficit in place.

You don’t have to starve yourself or sacrifice your protein intake to make progress.

And you don’t have to hit 15,000 steps every day to lose weight. The goal is to build a routine that works with your schedule and that you can maintain.

At 50, I’ve learned that consistency and time management are just as important as the workouts themselves.
