About the video:
Whether walking or running is better for losing weight has been debated for a long time. I’ve personally tried a lot of running earlier in my fitness journey, and I haven’t found running for weight loss to be that enjoyable or worth it considering my goal was to have a lean and muscular physique. My lower body wasn’t progressing as much because running a lot impacted my recovery. Walking, on the other hand, was a perfect fit for my routine.

Of course, if your goal is to get ripped, lifting weights and dialing in your nutrition will be the two top priorities. However, another way is to create a larger calorie deficit is to do more walking. Also, you’re not just walking to get fit. It has a lot of other cognitive and health benefits. Plus, it’s important to note that running to lose fat isn’t a good option if you start your journey to getting ripped 30-40 lbs overweight.

  1. Last year, I started walking a lot on the treadmill and noticed my belly fat dropped while weighing the same: 155 . My weight went up and down between 152 and 155, and my belly was chubby before walking; it still was chubby, just that fat dropped in my belly from walking only. However, I had stopped walking last year because the power went off for a week, so I got used to not walking. But last week, I started walking again, and I still weigh 155. My belly fat/thigh dropped again from just walking. I also noticed last year that from walking a lot, I sleep better , feel fuller easier , and I'm not as groggy when waking up . Walking really is very impressive for a monster as cardio.

legs thighs also get toned from walking,I sometimes jog to get my steps done faster, but I don't sweat much doing that, whereas when I walk only at 3.2-3.4 on my treadmill, I sweat more and my legs are also more tired.

legs thighs also get toned from walking,I have actually been jogging for one week, and my fat only dropped a little bit. It didn't budge more until I started walking about three days ago. More fat has dropped-not a lot, but I can notice. I only do 7k a day.

  3. 69 year old man walk 5.5 miles in 2 hrs. 4-5 days week. Had right knee replacement 3 times in the past 24 years last revision 5 years ago. Much challenge fell and cracked ribs earlier this past year. Cant imagine not walking. Endorphins are great and helps with the stiffness but consistency is the key and love yourself doing it.

  4. I actually enjoy RUNNING. I do walk as well (at least 20 miles/week at a 4mph pace) and also resistance training 4x/week. Running actually decreases my hunger later on. Significantly too.

  5. Running is a core activity which should be done at least 3 times a week with proper technique and additional strength training. Walking, hiking, biking, swimming is better as additional cardio training and has less impact and injury risk.

  6. Thank you! This was very informative. I want to lose 20kg so I started with walking then decided to start running – I need more carbs because of running and wanted to sleep after every run😭 Tomorrow I’m returning to walking.

  7. The enjoyment of walking is king

Somedays I can walk for 3 hours though out the day. I either listen to music, podcasts, prayer or listen to the audio bible. It's fantastic because I combine therapy, relaxation, keep my body busy, exercise and build up my spiritual life with God. It has win written all over it.

  8. I envy you folks that can run to stay fit but running doesn't work for folks that are older. Knee, hip, lower back pain can be bad. It will cause you to lose faith in getting healthy. Let's work on making our walking regimen longer. If you worry about balance with distance walk with someone else and also add walking sticks with rubber tips. It's better to have four legs than two. Walk On!

  9. Wow. Not one person who supports running over walking in the comments? For several years, I’ve been running for 15 minutes (at 5.5), 3 times per week, before my non-leg day workouts. On leg days I do 15 minutes of stair master. As a novice, it it hurt my workouts, but over time I built endurance and tolerance. Now I can’t image lifting without it. And I feel like I burn more fat. To each their own but it hasn’t hurt my workouts now that I have endurance. Let’s not forget athletes such as football players, basketball players, cross fitters, etc. all run frequently and it doesn’t seem to hurt their “gains.”

  10. I started running a couple mos ago, and its still feels difficult to attain. I started combining it alternately with walking . Walking ironically felt alot more productive, and noticed the exhaustion wasnt as bad in between workouts. Thank u for validating this confusion.

  11. I dropped running since it's just boring to me. Cycling, while a bit more expensive than just buying running shoes, is a lot more fun for me. I can do it everyday!
I also try to walk everywhere if I'm not cycling or weightlifting.

  12. Rather get to my 10k steps in 58 mins of running on my treadmill than an hour and a half walking. I lift for 2 hours after too and am able to progressively overload. Being hungry and eating lots of healthy vitamin rich foods is the reward and fun part. To each their own.

  13. I recommend walking if ur in the fitnes stuf basicly get bigger or stronger just as easy cardio(listen to podcast or uni lessons in my case i cant rly listen to them if i run, also i use it sometimes in beetwen weight lifting exercises if my forearm gave up in the middle of workout so i just use walking as a recovary between big lifts) but if u do sports like exp boxing and kyokushin running is a necesity

  14. Folks. You don't know me, but trust me anyway. What Mario says is spot on about walking to help control stress. For me, it's even better. Since I started walking every day, I immediately noticed an improvement in my anxiety and panic. Since implementing regularly walking and exercise, I have not had a single panic attack, not even an anticipatory attack. Totally modulated by walking. No more benzos or anxiolytics. Just calm, meditative, restorative, endorphin release. Try it.
