In this video, Dr. Berg talks about the mechanism of why menopause makes you fat. The ovaries make several hormones called estrogen and progesterone.
An average woman releases 400 eggs and when going through menopause, the ovaries basically stop producing eggs. Both hormones decrease but the ratio of estrogen is still much higher than progesterone leaving someone in the state of estrogen dominance.
The estrogen dominance will trigger another hormone, Corticotrophin Releasing Hormone (CRH) which is basically a hormone that communicates to the pituitary.
Cortisol is the main hormone that creates the problem. He also talks about the excess cortisol being very catabolic.

Menopause has been the worst thing Ive ever been going through. Nothing is helping
This is frustrating! I keep gaining weight, exercise daily, intermittent fast, drink only water and green tea. But now menopausal, no gallbladder, tumor on pituitary and no muscle definition at all and the weight keeps rising 😢 I need to know what to do! Please help Dr. Berg.
Thanks for your lively videos about Kenya. We can see your ❤ is in this. Have you ever thought about going to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe/ Zambia?
No one s talking about transdermal bioidentical estradiol
Yes I like how you broke it down. I understand now
Hi sir I am watching your videos, so good topics I have one concern. I hope it’s going to be help. I have a three C-sections and thyroid problem and Hysterectomy surgery after that I’m king 180 pounds and my height is 410 so I do a lot of strategy eat less but nothings gonna happen so what’s the best diet for this kind of condition of person I really appreciate if you advise thank you
Thx Dr Berg, I always love and appreciate you sharing this info. I’m relatively new to keto so I can’t get enough GOOD info. Thank you!

So I guess I can’t take DHEA then 😢
as a football mom, i liked the analogy…now back to understanding the process in order to dominate and succeed! thanks Dr. B xoxo
Football analogy for a woman’s body processing, well ok. But don’t men mostly play football, not usually so much women?
"You don't need to know that" I love to see the teacher in you working and wisely selecting what to say in order to make your point clear without demanding too much of your audience. I am a teacher myself and totally relate to that. Your videos are awsome, objective, right on spot and you explain very well. Thank you for that. I am 54 yo now and never had difficulty to lose weight when I needed, before. But now it has being harder. I always looked younger than my age and was never really sedentary, but now, even with IF and regular exercises, it has been really hard to lose weight. But I am getting there, just slower than what I'd like. Keep doing this great work, information is power, and we appreciate the fact that you share it with us so well.
What about a natural progesterone cream, made with wild yam and beeswax? Would that be somethign that can help balance out eh hormonal imbalance?
Thank you for this. I will admit I started laughing out loud (literally LOL) when you used the football analogy, but I appreciate it!
I’m not quite at menopause but premenopausal. I have the strongest and horrible cravings around my period. I’m also so hungry. I am eating low carb. Good amount of meat and fat. Is this just normal craziness. Ugggggggg
So your saying we need to sack the quarterback !
Recommending fasting and keto for menopausal weight gain, how misguided. For about half the population, that will make things worse.
Looking for help losing tummy. Trying your program with no success. Have question what’s the best way to contact you. Been following your u tube videos

Did not see the link about how to restore atrophy after menopause and what to do about fat gain.
DR BERG SO AM I UNDERSTANDING CORRECT THAT MENOPAUSE CAN ALSO CREATE MORE OF CHANCE FOR DIABETES .
What can we do to lose weight this time? How to avoid muscle loss? please, answer me
Dr Berg, thanks for this great explanation! Do you have or can you please do a video explaining how to restore atrophy? Thank you!
I have just read the associated article on your website that says "Adopt a more low-fat and low-calorie diet plan" in the "fix the problems going on with the rest of your body" section. Are you sure that is correct as you normally suggest keto? For most people, a low-fat and low-calorie diet plan would mean a moderate or high carbohydrate diet and calorie counting that would likely drive further insulin resistance and metabolic dysfunction. If they increased their protein consumption instead (with a reduced fat intake); this would be conditionally gluconeogenic. Why are you not recommending a LCHO or keto approach in this situation?
I have menopause .and i have moorens ulcer in my rigth eye and glaucoma in the left eye How i can lose weight without affecting my eyes even more ?
I didn’t go bra shopping so I’m fucking praying that I can find one that fits in the morning 😤😤😤
???So it must be bad to take Adrenal Day Formula* since it helps add cortisol??? (*Currently called Adrenal & Cortisol Support.)
So… My issue is I had a 9×9 hypothalamus hamartoma that has been shown to be hormone reactive. I had a hysterectomy 4 yrs ago and last year began having seizures believed to be linked to my tumor and it was discovered that it had grown 40%. I am 4'11 and began keto at 220 pounds. I had lost down to 165 pounds and then started gaining it all back. I am currently at 210. I've had several new symptoms that the doctor has Dx'd as Premature Ovarian Failure. I cannot do HRT because of my brain tumor…. My family physician didn't see concerned about my weight gain but I am. Is there ANY advice???
Dr.berg can you talk about hysterectomy and ovaries after ovarian cancer at twenty seven years old??
what happens in all body ??
And thanks a lot for your knowledge sharing with us
Thank you Dr.Eric Berg
Dr Berg, I would like you to please explain how we can balance estrogen and progesterone after menopause, ie. Get rid of the estrogen dominance. Many thanks in advance!
Can this also apply to young females with tubes tied?
YES!!😁
Yeppers and the weight loss is a sloths pace
I haven't reached menopause but have always been estrogen-dominant. How do I close the gap between estrogen and progesterone?
Oh thats why !!
what if you had a hysterectomy (total) and are on an estrogen patch…after my surgery I gained about 40 pounds and have now lost 35 pounds by intermittent fasting.
This really is depressing. I've been low carb since January (It's the end of July) and have only lost 10 lbs. Been having really bad menopause symptoms. This explains a lot!
No I'm in better shape now then before…Pilates, yoga . Dancing.walking
