Let’s talk about why it’s so difficult for some people to lose weight and keep it off.

Dieting is similar to famine. If you have difficulty losing weight because you’ve dieted for many years, your body is likely compensating for survival purposes.

You don’t have a slow metabolism—you have an enhanced metabolic efficiency. Once you understand the right problem, you can attack it with a better solution.

People who restrict calories are more susceptible to nutrient deficiencies, which can affect their hormones. Your body can also adapt to lower amounts of calories, causing it to burn less fat, making it harder to lose weight.

Intermittent fasting differs from calorie restriction for a few reasons. When done correctly, you have less hunger and fewer cravings with intermittent fasting. Intermittent fasting also has unique health benefits that you can’t get with a calorie-restrictive diet.

It’s important to do the Healthy Keto® diet along with intermittent fasting so you don’t create imbalances in the body.

You also adapt your body to run on ketones when you do intermittent fasting. This is a situation where you’re burning your own fat. Even though you might indirectly reduce your calories by consuming fewer meals, your body still burns fat fuel.

If you do calorie restriction without going low-carb, you could easily find yourself in a situation where you can’t tap into your fat. Instead, you may tap into your muscles because your carbs and insulin are too high. If you have high insulin, you can’t burn fat.

I don’t consider the Healthy Keto plan and intermittent fasting a diet because you can easily do this long-term. This is a lifestyle change that doesn’t even feel like a diet.

Healthy Keto and intermittent fasting have incredible benefits to support your health and weight loss. But, if you find it difficult to do the Healthy Keto diet, you may want to try the metabolic confusion diet for a little while until you feel ready to take on the Healthy Keto diet with intermittent fasting.

  1. I am not sure what his central point is in this lengthy video. what i think i am getting out of this is that regardless of what one's weight is, that one's nutritional focus should be not on counting calories, but on eating a diet that has no more than 50 grams of net carbs in it, while being as nutritionally dense as possible. and what that comes down to in practice is, to eat nothing but full-fat animal protein, vegetables, and healthy fats

  2. My TSH has increased from 0.92 to 4.26 in 4 years and I’m now 21. I find it hard to lose fat but forgot that I was on a calorie deficit and I forgot to come off it. I exercise a lot and am a healthy weight but I mean I was losing muscle and not fat despite the actual foods being healthy, I started eating more again so reverse dieting and I keep the high protein and I let myself have carbs and sometimes a snack and it’s working I mean I’m gaining muscle and my composition is less fat. My weight hasn’t changed though so I’ll wait on that (I wanted to get to a lower end of my weight).

  3. Problem one is food companies do design food that is hijacked by the lizard brain. Personally I think these GLP drugs are a game changer. They remove the cravings and food noise. Thus making diets possible.

  4. I stuffed my emotions down with food. Carbs always made me feel better for a while. This summer, I stopped consuming grains, old emotions came up. I allowed it, forgiving myself for stuffing them down with breads, cakes, ice cream and…
I’ve come down four dress sizes so far. Most of the trauma related stuff has been dealt with. Any time I crave grains and/or sugar, I look within and see what is trying to come up.

  5. Thank you for the encouragement 😅 it's the first time someone praises my body state 😂😂 I'm a surviver then, good to know.. will be however doing all you recommend in the next weeks, fingers crossed 🤞

  6. Thank you universe for showing me Dr. Berg! I was ready to give up hope that I'd ever be a healthy weight again. This is my 8th video I've watched of his and and so much is making sense for me. Stress, cortisol, hypothyroidism, insulin…mind blown!

  7. I dip Skoal and it's sweetened with saccharine. Would dipping break my fast or increase insulin levels? It's important to note that you don't swallow the tobacco juices as you have to spit with smokeless tobacco.

  8. Its mostly because people dieting their muscles away, and only muscles and the brain burn calories. What are people usually doing who want to diet? They go low on fat which mostly also mean low on proteins, then they are on a calorie deficit and maybe even add cardio – absolute disaster. The right way is to eat more proteins / fats (better than carbs because it keeps your insuline low) and do weight lifting. If you then still have the energy and time then you of course also can add cardio, but if you have to choose then you always go with weight lifting.

  9. I'm 65, always been thin, never had weight I couldn't lose quickly, until I turned 64. I've tried everything; cut carbs, cut sugar, intermittent fasting, lots of proteins, vegies, sleep well, lots of water, no booze, walk a lot and I cant lose 1 f'ing pound. Help!!!

  10. This hits a critical truth: it’s not a slow metabolism — it’s an over-adapted one. Years of calorie restriction without nutrient density wrecks hormone balance, especially thyroid and leptin signaling. Intermittent fasting with strategic refeeding and nutrient-dense meals can reset that metabolic efficiency and finally lower the body’s “set point” — without burnout.

  11. I know it's not related, but I mean there's animals with slow metabolism and they almost always have increased odds of survival and live longer. Idk, just find that comparison very intriguing. Maybe we are not all as sophisticated on metabolism as we thought.

  12. I did keto and IF for 2 years, my first "diet." After the 2 years I started gaining weight and still to this day 2 years later. Searched and searched for answers, no answers anywhere. I was not low calorie on keto. Now currently looking into people saying high fat can deregulate thyroid, people in the Dr. Ray Peat sphere. I think that might be it. So will start doing bioenergetic foods per Jay Feldman. You look in other spheres and find tons of people with a similar problem.

  13. There is a research scientist found an island in the coast of spain and italy..
and all the people on this island are super healthy and live over 100
and never have any of the regulat health problems.
    .
This doctor of science did a very extensive study
    and his colleague
    also did his extensive study

They discovered .. the island people … they use certain low carbs herbs and fruits

and there diet was simply a variation of a Mediterranean diet

    This DOCTOR
created a product and it has helped thousands to lose weight and helped with heart health, ..circulation.,.brain health.

When he introduced this miraculous product

The American doctor's and the .. FDA.. and along with many other media people

SLANDERED the Doctor . Discounted his extensive research..
and the product fell flat ..

    NOBODY
bought it cause of the bad press
    and bad publicity..
    and

Millions of obese and sick Americans
    could have been helped.

    But now.
They are not being helped because of the bad publicity

    THIS
    IS THE
    REASON

    FOR

    SO MUCH OF OUR

    SICKNESS AND DISEASE

  14. Fasting works! But it's extremely hard! I have a high metabolism- I usually go number 2 at least 4-5 times a day. I lift weights which makes me hungry- I can consume 5'000- 7'000 calories and I stay the same!

  15. I did reduce my calories 5 years ago I ate around 900 calories a day for 1 year a lost lots of weight but something went wrong I got dissy trouble with my eyesight I didn't feel like my self and got depressed

  16. My BMR test concluded that I have a 1350 a day calorie burn. I have to eat 1100 to lose weight and 1350 to maintain for all my life. That’s extremely low…

  17. How depressing. Im a 45 year-old male, 6.1, 230 pounds and your saying theres nothing I can do to avoid dad-bod even though I do intermittent fasting, eat healthy, and gym daily 😔

  18. Please do a video on fast metabolism because Ive always been skinny underweight and I often eat small frequent meals or snacks that I believe is because of my metabolism

  19. After a 3 day fast, my metabolism actually increased. For 2 months I could not get under 180 pounds during a diet, was stuck at 185.

A 3 day fast starting at around 184 pounds got me finally to 179. After that within 3 or 4 weeks I hit 168 while resuming mostly the same diet. I had not been under 170 pounds for over ten years.
