How eating MORE can put you in a calorie deficit and lead to weight loss ⬆️
The debate as to whether calories in vs calories out really matters for weight loss rages on in the fitness community. But the truth is that the arguments on both sides are being oversimplified.
You can not defy the laws of physics—you do have to be in a calorie deficit in order to lose weight. But the ‘calories out’ side of the equation is a lot more complex than people give it credit for. It can be influenced by MANY factors including the ‘calorie in’ side of the equation.
In some cases, if you add to the ‘calories in’ side, the ‘calories out’ side increases even more.
As such, some people lose weight when they INCREASE calories.
This is the main principle behind why many people lose weight while reverse dieting.

Yaaaa.. idk. I finally lost weight in a steady 500 cal deficit after years of worrying about hormones, metabolism, adaptations etc. etc. etc. my muscle mass is increased and my fat mass went down, even as someone who only had about 10 pounds to lose. All this complexity kept me stuck for years.
If you were losing weight prrtty steadily on a deficit and exercise, then, suddenly, you're dead on your feet and you can't do your usual exercises—your basal metabolic rate likely became HIGHER. Muscles BURN MORE CALORIES. So, you need to increase how much you eat, decrease the deficit. Check, by the next say, you'll likely have lost weight as you got out of starvation mode and can work out more! So either, stick to a higher calorie intake that works or do zig-zagging and spend most of the week in a lower calorie range and two days of the week, eat closer to your maintenance. ^^
Is that why every time I work out .. my body is just hungry afterwards !!!! Like I crave carbs after .. also I crave carbs a week before my period … ugh .. its constant battle
Thank you sooooo much for the simplicity and quickness of this information!! Subscribing immediately 😊
Gregg Doucette will have facepalm
Dude, come on. Sight the study because I'd love to see all the factors you didn't mention. Don't trust this lady (or other "influencers"). Talk to a local dietician that specializes in what your goals are.
Do better, ma'am. People are looking for useful advice. This is just setting people back on their goals.
What ?? What is she on I need it
Is there a formula to predict when one could reach a plateau?
Alternatively, what do you think of dieting inconsistently e.g. eat more on the days you work out and eat less when you don't?
Dr Jason fung says it better…in a word “homeostasis”.
Y’all don’t have the discipline to do this right, stick to your calorie deficits people
Keyword is “sometimes.” Like sometimes people give out good advice and sometimes people give out confusing advice.
Eat when you are hungry don't when you're full.
Go for a walk.
Tada
Just use a 500 calorie defecit and sometimes just cheat and eat maintaince and the day after that just eat 250 calories less and the day after that as well then just go back too normal diet and there you go you body can adjust easily without upsetting your body because of the big change
Calm down, take a deep breath and blow out slowly…You are too toxi…
Calories in calories out this is only true if u are depriving urself from calories, how is ur body going to burn calories if ur only eating enough to keep you alive. if u are in a 500 calorie deficit ull lose weight without all those side effects
That only work if you have previously absolutely guttered your metabolism. For someone like me who has a TDEE of 3300 kcal at 5’10 180 there is no hope in hell that eating more will simply have my metabolism raise at a faster rate than the increase in kcal
How’s compensating for being a butterface goin queen
And giving advice that doesn’t apply to most of your viewers? Sick.
Soooo, this sounds like what happened to me. Weight loss has been a long journey of figuring out what my body wants. Before weight loss, I was hardly ever hungry. Then, I started my weight loss journey and keeping track of calories. I felt like while losing weight I was eating a bunch more calories, but healthier calories. I felt like I was always full and it was too much, but thr calorie counter app and several others told me what my calorie intake should be based on my age, weight, height, and, exercise. I didn't get much results at first. My weight was staying the same or slightly increasing, but all of a sudden, I get a lot more hungry all the time and many days I lose anywhere between half a pound to a a pound. I can even lose weight on days I go way over what I was supposed to and completely pig out. I'm pretty sure I increased my metabolism and that wasn't my goal and I didn't know I could do that, but it's cool.
🧢🧢🧢
Calories mean absolutely nothing and there's no such thing as a calorie deficit you could have about four to six thousand calories in your body at any one time and they can burn in 45 minutes of walking they're just measured in heat kilojoules they mean nothing at all
Maybe technically true is some cases but this is not something you should be recommending. Do you think a sudden and significant increase in BMR and NEAT is good for you? Those calories will be burned by hyper active digestive system, cardiovascular and aerobic systems which could lead to significant health issues. Just stay in a small calorie deficit by reducing your intake or increasing your output, in a balance that suits your body and lifestyle and is sustainable over the long term. It's not that complicated. (Not a doctor)
Nope, just get fat for me. 800 calories or less for me to lose weight. Very hard with 15 hour work days at times. Constantly hungry. Been to three nutritionists, and I gain weight on their program, or lose weight in the beginning but it drops off
I have a question — so I am a 17 year old female who weighs about 133 pounds trying to lose weight. I’ve been trying to lose weight for a few months and trying to do it the healthiest way possible so that I am both satiated and accomplishing the goals I want. Just this week I started counting my calorie intake. I workout almost everyday. I’ll do weight lifting and I’ll also run a mile. I try to eat anywhere from 1,000-1,200 calories a day. Is this too little? Will I still lose weight if I increase this?
Too many hand gestures! Be careful you might poke out your eye.
I would like to try but it is too scary. “Your metabolism can “sometimes” increase faster than your calorie intake. I need this guaranteed lol
How often would we have to take a calorie break?
Basically if you dont eat a nutritious meal you feel tired and sluggish so you might move less and burn less fuel. That's why it's often recommended to just est 3 meals a day ( breakfast, lunch, dinner ) to have that energy to move around the day.
I’m so confused 😂 what happen to calories in calories out
