There’s always a handful of people who get upset when I make these posts because they think I’m discouraging people from doing cardio.

At the end of the day I’m just giving the facts and people can do with that information whatever they want.

I always include the fact that I still recommend performing regular cardio of some kind for general health purposes, and I’m in no way trying to encourage anyone to skip it. (I’m literally writing this after having just finished a session)

However, there are a ton of people whose primary goal is to lose body fat and who end up on the wrong path by trying to create their deficit through actively burning calories with exercise and then only loosely monitoring their diet, when they’d usually be much better off to flip these priorities around.

Yes, there are always exceptions, and if someone’s energy expenditure is very high (this is usually the case for people who have some kind of active daily hobby or do frequent sports/martial arts etc.) and their diet is reasonable to begin with then it might still work out just fine.

I’m speaking to the majority here, and most people are not performing such a high volume of cardio that it’s going to have a massive impact on things.

Not to mention that if building/maintaining muscle is a top priority, you ideally wouldn’t want to be doing tons and tons of cardio anyway since beyond a certain point it will start interfering with weight training recovery and performance.

Do your cardio. But if the goal is fat loss, controlling calorie intake will be the most important factor for the majority.

  1. It absolutely does burn a lot of calories if you’re in good shape and you do even just the minimum recommended amount. 3 hours a week of zone 2 (pretty low intensity) can burn like 2000 kcal if you’re in decent shape. That’s 300 per day on average – a good deficit by itself. On top of that there are all the physical and mental benefits which will help you diet and live a better, more energized and healthier life in general.

Yes, cardio can increase your hunger a bit but not by more than you burn. Especially not zone 2.

If you can’t burn a decent amount of calories doing zone 2, it’s a sign you need to do MORE of it. Building up good cardiovascular fitness makes it a lot easier to burn and maintain body weight. Also, walking is NOT a substitute for cardio unless you’re in really bad shape (but if that’s the case then start by just walking). Get a heart rate monitor and figure out what gets you into zone 2.

  2. I still have to disagree with this video, cardio is what makes a lot of people's caloric deficits. Especially the shorter you are and with how caloric dense a lot of food is. It's true that you should focus on your intake first but when you have a low BMR, there's only so much you can do. Leaving cardio to create the deficit since strength training doesn't burn that many calories.

I can see the argument to not has as big of a focus on cardio for taller people though since their BMR is massive compared to shorter people.

  3. If you want to lose weight and fat you do cardio and eat better. As a former collegiate distance runner I can tell you cardiovascular exercise is the best thing you can do to be in shape and lose weight. Have you ever seen a fat distance runner??

  4. Its wild to me how inefficient human bodies are at maintaining muscle and self repairing, maintaining energy levels of long periods of activity, etc yet its so efficient at holding onto stored energy that you can push yourself to the max for an hour of hard cardio and not even burn off a single whopper.

  5. One thing this short didnt Cover is that consistent zone 2 cardio training improves your ability to burn fat for energy instead of glucose. This means that during cardio, you will start burning through more bodyfat for calories and less glucose from your muscles, blood and liver. This does help with fat loss and especially with appetite because people with low zone 2 training usually get more hungry after training due to low blood sugar levels.

This makes it harder to cut calories from your diet and can be eased and even completely prevented by regular zone 2 cardio.

Remember cardio is like hypertrophy: it takes months and years to see significant effects but if you start now, your cardiovascular system will be more healthy for the rest of your life.

  6. I mainly do it fasted because it does work better for me, I don’t dare what some poorly done study said, and I mostly do it for heart health. The increase in stamina is also another good reason.

  7. I believe cardio is the most important excercise to SURVIVE a long life. I dont see many body builders looking great in to retirement years 🤷‍♂️ As for fat loss, ride a bike (actually outside on a real bike) for 30 mins a day and you'll see what it can do.

  8. Cardio ain't overrated. Cardio is beneficial to burn visceral fat not Subcontaneous fat. It improves your stamina and also overall health. Just doing strength training won't work

  9. Just do it, that one hour with stationary bike after your weight lifting session might burn 150-200 calories only but in the long term it would add up to a pretty significant loss overall. Also doing it would help you in case you got that extra calories day from eating out with family etc.

  10. my daily diet was 90% fruits and i ran 3.5 months and lost 34kg. 🤷‍♂️💪😁
I started with 500m daily and the last month i ended with 20km daily run 3-4 times a week.
Numbers dont lie so yes, cardio is a great way to lose weight.

  11. I lost 13kg lifting weights and in a calorie deficit. I got bored. Lifting weights for me is not fun or entertaining and i had to bully myself to do it. I skipped one week. Which turnee into a month which turned into a year. I put on the whole 13kg again. Im losing it again now and im not picking up one weight. Im focusing on exercise thst i enjoy which for me is long walks and an hour of high intensity dancing a day. Im sticking to this easy which means i can be consistent. The dancing uses a lot of moves that will tone and condition my muscles. Do what you enjoy and stick at that rather than hating your workouts

  12. This is the Dumbest Video iv ever watched in my entire life 😂😂 of course your not gonna burn any calories if your sitting on your ass drinking 1-2 cans of dr pepper and eating 2 big reeses peanut butter cups dude most people have whats called a day job and they burn most of appropriate amount of calories in 7 day time spans every week just from walking around the problem is if you work out after breakfast the only calories your burning off is the breakfast you just ate not previously stored fat and when walking around at work for that one week your wheight is not gonna drastically change even if you drink assloads of water trust me i still have Man Boobs😂😂😂

  13. Im a 5ft girl and my calorie intake is 1400! How an i supposed to survive off that. I dont want to eat 2 meals a day. Cardio helps me feel fuller and it energizes me

  14. Jog at 5 miles an hour on a treadmill 500 easy calories per hour. Do it morning and night watching tv or something and you burned 1000 calories per day. Watch your meals and you just lost weight. Bodybuilding takes years to even develop muscle unless you’re on the juice

  15. pro tip
start doing cardio before changing your diet
so your body can adapt with the increase in activity
    and the decrease in energy
its better to start going to the gym before starting a diet then starting a diet afterwards
so when you combine the two
you get the results you want to see

  16. I've tried lowering my calories and just weight training. It definitely works but the low calories effects my overall energy and strength. So I rather eat more and do the cardio. Its all about how you feel and overall general health.

  17. No. I disagree. Cardio burns the most calories. Being in a caloric deficit is important to weigh loss BUT you're not always going to be in one. Walk, run, swim and hike is the best fat burning solution. I don't know why this guy is down playing cardio. Like wtf dude

  18. I Have Done Research: The Easiest and most effective Way To Lose Fat With Proof, is strength training, dumbells, bench press, etc.., Look these up (Afterburn), (EPOC), (Fast Metabolism). Why athletes get out of Shape after retiring and bodybuilders stay fit at 70 years? A pound of muscle burns 10 calories a day at ”REST”‼️‼️

  19. Diet could be questioned using the same argument: your body tries to compensate the lack of calories. Turning into a lower metabolism resting.

In my personal case, diet is not enough when aiming for the sufficient proteins to build muscle, because they alone provide more calories than I need to lose fat. The way to make it sustainable and efficient is to consume protein shakes instead of protein food and to do cardio. Both combined.
