Love handles are one of the toughest areas to get rid of. Using the latest science, I’ll show you how to lose love handles (and keep them off) in 5 easy steps. But first, you need to understand how you developed that stubborn fat in the first place – from months and years of overeating. Our bodies prefer to store our excess calories as fat around the abdomen. This is especially true for men as well as women after menopause. Worse, usually, wherever the body stores fat first is where it will lose fat from last. This is what makes belly fat, lower back fat, and those love handles so easy to gain yet so tough to lose. But don’t worry. Love handles are just like any other fat. Use the right approach, and eventually, they will go away. And to lose love handles, we’ll start with the most important step, nutrition.

Alright step 1 – nutrition. So while a calorie deficit is needed, it’s not actually going to cause much fat loss in your love handles right away. Your body will instead prioritize other areas of your body before stubborn areas like your love handles. This is why you must use a calorie deficit that isn’t too aggressive. For most, a good general target is to aim to lose about a lb of fat a week. But don’t be afraid to take it even slower than this if needed.
So the next two steps cover what exercises you should be doing to lose love handles. First up is lifting weights. This won’t directly help get rid of your love handles, but it will help create the illusion of a smaller waist and less noticeable love handles. Second, lifting weights can help act as a safety guard to prevent fat regain in the future. 3-6 hard sets per muscle per week is likely all you need, with older individuals likely needing the top end of that range.
Alright, step 3. Although you should primarily create a deficit through your diet, you should also aim to increase the calories you burn through exercise. Now, unless you have quite an active job or lifestyle, without any cardio, you’re going to have to eat quite a low amount of calories in order to lose fat. Plus, one unique benefit of cardio is that regardless of if you lose weight or not, it’ll help reduce your visceral fat — the deep dangerous belly fat. This is obviously great for your health but also might even make a small difference with losing love handles by reducing the overall size of your belly.
What I’d recommend is just to start with walking. Track on average how many steps a day you’re currently taking, and aim to bump that up by 2,000 steps a day. Keep doing that until you reach 8,000 to 10,000 steps a day. In addition to that, you can also consider adding some low- to moderate-intensity cardio to your routine. But again, only what you enjoy and can stick to consistently.
However, it’s likely you’ll reach a point where what used to work is no longer working (this is why stubborn fat is so “stubborn”). You’ve reached this point if you haven’t noticed any fat loss or much drop in your body weight for at least 2-3 weeks. When this happens, there’s 2 things you can do. The first is to drop your calorie intake. Typically, a decrease of just 100 calories or so per day is all that’s needed. The second is to increase your activity and the average calories you burn every day. This can be as simple as bumping up your daily steps or adding another 20-30 minutes of low- to moderate-intensity cardio into your weekly routine.
Now if you stay consistent with the previous “how to lose love handles” steps, I guarantee you’ll lose your love handles. But honestly, to completely lose your love handles, you have to get very lean. A level of leanness that for most people, including myself, is very difficult to sustain. Believe me, I know we all want to look like all the shredded guys on social media. But most of these guys have incredible genetics, often aren’t natural, and also don’t share with you just how difficult it is to maintain that shape and how low energy it can make you feel day to day. So don’t worry if you still have a little bit of love handles or lower belly fat. Embrace all the progress you’ve already made, take breaks and just maintain whenever you need to, and realize that the extra push to lose that little bit of stubborn fat just might not be worth the trade-off.

Great advice. My own cheat code to more calorie burn is incorporating short sprints in my walks. I could barely sprint 5 seconds at the beginning, but after a few months I love doing 2-3 100m sprints during my 30min walks. It's the afterburn that makes a real difference to my short walks. I can burn 10x the active calorie than walking alone. Please take it easy at the beginning – slowly work up to it to avoid injury. Doing an all-out effort even for 13 seconds is no joke. Rest 3-5 mins between sprints and give 24-48hrs rest between sprint days for proper recovery. Good luck!

quick question, I know you said that this is especially true for men, adn women after menopause but im a woman and only 18. i dont have very obvious love handles im still considered healthy and i look it aswell, its just the fat i can see that i want to lose. Now personally i dont even eat alot i eat what i need and i dont exceed that i just have very slow metabolism, and ive never understood how to cut down calories – im also iron deficient so like i get the motivation to work out and so all of this but then i get exhausted and lightheaded so for something like this should i still follow this? are there any specifics i need to do?
Sugar sugar sugar is the ultimate game changer stop it!
Stand up desk above my exercise bike handles. Sometimes I’ve biked 3 hours and not realized… get good padding lol.
Keeping carbs below 20gm a day did it for me. About 4-5 months
Waste.
Bla bla bla
No point..
Yup. As a woman with high hip bones, I’ll always have at least a little love handles. My iliac crests stick out so it makes sense that I need some fat to protect them. Even with a flat stomach and some ab definition in my upper abs, I don’t think I’d want to live the kind of life necessary to lose the last bit of fat. And I kinda like my love handles.
Pay to win
Where I live, it’s impossible to play basketball outdoors with a shirt on. That said, I try to hide mine to the point it get a semi camie toe 😂
Why does ai exaggerate arm movements so much?
i recently started being able to workout 5-6 days a week up from 2-3 days b/c i changed my routine. I used to lift heavy + run on treadmill and i'd be worn out by the 3rd day. Now i do gym +stair master monday, Run club 5k tuesday, tennis wednesday, gym thursday, rest friday, run club 5k saturday, and early morning sunday beach workout or rest day.
Consistency is key… It doesn't happen over night 🫡… I'm 46 and it took me 5 months to get where I wanted to be. No processed food or sugar.. that is the hardest part for me. The 5 days a week at the gym is easy. The not having honey buns and chocolate cake is hard
Thank You 👍🏻
9:24 No we don't! 😕
Is a row machine cardio?
❤
the part about love handles being the last to go is so demoralizing lol, terdanta sculpt under my hoodie is carrying me through the patient part
Thing is I'm skinny but I still have them anyways so I don't want to change my bulking diet or I start losing weight again
the number one method is just Terdanta Sculpt shapewear and we all know it
Really love your videos . Finally someone really presents some body of knowledge rather then just tell tale. What I don’t get though is the topic of maintaining. Once love handles are off I can go up to maintenance calories no? And that means my metabolism would probably also go up again so maintenance should increase as well. Then wouldn’t maintenance be easier then the dieting phase?
How would a calorie deficit work if i typically skip breakfast and lunch??
Man just chats nonsense not even telling you how to lose it just chats shiite
Wow nice take.
Excellent video! I have watched many videos about this topic and yours is the most comprehensive! Thanks!!!!
Month 11…😮 long game…
To much talking
If I’m being honest, if you’re natural, even 1lb/wk can be aggressive. I have been on TRT for years now but when I was natural anything more than half lb per week would destroy me. I wasn’t even lean. I can now lose 2lbs per week and not lose strength at all, I just feel tired more
I got a problem, I got the bone there and not the fat, but it is protruding and it looks like fat 🙁
My man! What busy adult has time to workout 5-6-7 times a week? Be realistic! Most adults with incredibly busy lives, like myself try our hardest to get 4 days in.
You need something you can stick to week after week.
Get to the point!!!!
Thank you coach
I lost my weight on the SEAT diet ( stop eating all the time ) …just drink plenty and have ONE good meal a day with protein…goid fats and low carbs in a two hour window. I've not lost any muscle ….just the fat between them so the definition is good…. feel great ..70lb down ..
The secret here is the hormone insulin (fat storage) ….it only shows up when you eat mainly carbs ..so don't have ANY carbs when you're fasting….We're dual fuel and if you are hungry your liver will make all the fuel you need with stored body fat …and it's a cleaner fuel than food!! … especially sugars and starch!!
I'm not a gym guy. I simply MOVE a lot and make everything I do a workout..like cleaning the car and running up stairs…plus plenty of walking ….
Wear a fit bit, lay in bed, choke yer chicken for a while, you'd be surprised how many steps you can get in…as long as fitbit and choking hand are the same…😂😂😂

Jokes aside, good video.
I feel like I personally prefer weighted squats, walking and the cha cha slide
this guy wears the same shirt in almost all his videos LOL
I used to be a chef and then a framing carpenter. Now as a stay at home dad the weight is so hard to keep off! Never realized how much my work was doing for me.
Swim 130 laps of freestyle and 140 laps of breaststroke every week for 50 weeks. 😂😂😂

Not for me my belly fat and love handles come off first
What if I eat 3 eggs for breakfast and 1 sandwich per day
Maybe it was September or October last year, I don’t even remember when I started OMAD. My waist was 34.5 and now it’s below 31 ✌️ but none of my pants fit anymore 😭 After 2015, post-typhoid and an incident, my waist went up to 38. After 10 years, I’m finally back to my 22-year-old slim figure, except now with no V-shaped chest and no natural one-pack abs 😭 I’m older now, carrying tonnes of continuous dehumanization. Need to start some One Punch Man Saitama-style training with 300 sit-ups, 300 squats, 300 rowing, 3 km cycling, elliptical and more. My hands are very soft so I can’t punch, but I can slap and it burns like hell, maybe I’ll be One Slap Man 🤭 Wish I had a 5-in-1 gym machine at home 😭 I’ll enroll in a gym after six more months of OMAD if I don’t die in some random accident. Consistency exists, and even if it’s small, momentum in every sector would be awesome ✌️
Lost 19kg in just 3 months…but the love handles are still there
I am quite slim but have some fat rolls on my back and a bit of belly fat. It's driving me nuts and I have been fighting with it for more than half a year.
