If you are over the age of 50, the chances are good that you have followed diet or exercise routines designed to help you lose weight. Some of those efforts may have been successful, so it would make sense to repeat what worked in the past.
However, what if you can’t find the motivation to get started? Or what if what worked in the past is not working now? In this video, I’ll share four things you can do today to get your eating, moving, and thinking on track so you can jump start your weight loss.

Thank you Dr Becky! As always, you are right on time! Trying to get my family to embrace these exercise and eating habits. I love them and if I mess up I get right back on it. Just starting, hope they grab on! I appreciate all you do and teach. God Bless!
I notice that when I have breakfast , I'm not hungry for lunch, should I skip breakfast or lunch?
I have pancreatitis due to not having a gallbladder. In order to aim for low carb, how do I adjust for the need to be low fat? I feel only part of a story is being told here.
Love that this brings urgency to starting — because so many women over 50 are stuck in frustration or overwhelm.
One thing I’ve found makes a huge difference is resetting the body’s stress response and gut health first, before layering on calorie cuts or fasting.
Anyone here feel like your body just isn’t responding the way it used to — even when you’re eating “perfectly”?
this is great a advice
Thanks

Best video I've seen on this topic, thank you! For anyone that can respond…I do 20/4 on and off. My biggest problem is not eating enough calories. Does anyone have this problem? I feel like I cant get enough in, I'm full/loss of appetite. I lose lbs but not sure if this is healthy. Any comments would be appreciated.
This is me I'm 58 years old and I'm struggling with my weight gain/ loss journey 😊
I want to begin eating keto, thanks to you, but I'm vegan. What would you recommend to adapt keto diet to vegetarian people? Maybe it could be the subject of a video…. Thank you for your marvellous work!
Meant to add, as far as "getting started" goes, regarding being overweight, I think that having a red line for yourself in combination with self-disgust when you reach a certain weight or chunkiness, that can be a super motivator for getting going with it. The problem in part is that some people fail to have that really clear in their minds and they keep setting that red line father and father out. They get used to it and forget about it and they get worse and worse.
I know there are super fat men out there. I see them the same as anyone else. Regardless, I'd assert that women have particular qualities making them less capable of overriding overweightness like men can. They more easily keep fat on once they put it on. If there's a lack of force of will and discipline, then of course it wouldn't matter either way. The person is going to stay fat and maybe even get fatter. But from what I've seen, once a man starts in attacking with good diet and exercise, not even truly dieting that is, or necessarily altering it much, he ultimately gets fitter and skinnier down to at least close to, if not even or better, to what he was in his early 20s, when he was at his best, and it's a known equation that basically must happen, if he puts the miles in doing whatever for real exercise. But it has to be made a daily priority, not just something you do a couple of times a week.
I’m bald
Very helpful.👌🏽
I find if I change ONE habit for a month it’s less overwhelming. As a 57 yo working full time I don’t have the luxury of eating enuf between 8-4 to allow myself to be full enuf when I “fast”. 🤷♀️
interesting
😢I am so depressed about my weight gain at an early menopause at 47. I have suppressed carbs and sugar, I do intermittent fasting and I exercise and I am not losing weight… I am now 50 and it is like my weight gain is never ending…
I’ve lost 27 pounds in less than 3 months without doing Keto or IF. Fasting caused binge eating for me. I watch my portions and count calories. I eat a lot of fruit, vegetables and protein. I eat bread every day (Ezekial). It was very easy.
This was helpful, Thank you
Fantastic tips! Thank you so much!
Dr Becky could you please teach us how to lower uric acid in our bodies, even though we are on low carb diet?
Thank you so much! 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Beck's when young in my teens I was power lifter weightlifter and did the rings also a musician walked 15 miles a day with my dog at 50 – 59 I swam 9000 meters a week at 70 got my first surfboard have two so Beck's I know about training at 76 I train inside the house just to keep me supple
This all makes sense and it’s great advice. With my work schedule I don’t eat at work (not even lunch) part time jobs is what I do. So I come home starving . I can’t stop eating at 4:00 when I don’t get get home till 5:00 or after
Great video and nutrition advice 😊
love your videos, concise and on point plus the added bonus of your soothing voice🙂
I do 20-30 minutes at a brisk walk on the treadmill but increase the load periodically by increasing the incline.
Wished I could do keto but keto equates insomnia for me. After a few weeks of insomia I can see myself ageing quickly.
What can I do to lose weight I can't walk. I am a 76 year old woman. In constant pain . I know I would feel better if I could lose weight but I hurt too much to walk etc
You always explain things so clearly it’s easy to understand. Thank you.
WHAT IF YOU HAD A TOTAL THYROIDECTOMY HUN??? IM ON LEVOTHYROXINE …COULD YOU PLEASE GIVE ME SOME TIPS IM 57
Thanks for your common sense approach . Feel better doing OMAD . When I go out I enjoy meal with company but restrict myself at home . You got to be realistic in how you live your life . I’m 68 and walk more , have a foot bike for in doors I use . I have an eating window from 4pm – 5pm that I like . I’m eating better and feeling better .
There is no way I could have a five hour gap from my last meal to bed time. I cannot sleep unless my tummy has food in it. This would feed into insomnia issues which then lead to hunger.
I exercise and fast from 5pm to 1pm next day.
I have a question. I work at a daycare and my shifts are 10 hour days. So 7:30 to 5:30. By the time I get home it’s 6. What would my window be for eating?
I'm a 50 perimenopausal former gym rat with no motivation since the pandemic. Gained 25 lbs and only I'm only 5 feet tall. 😢 Dating a former Mr. Olympian competitor. Talk about WTH am I doing? Back to the drawing board with your help.
She's really good!!!
I found weight loss to be a 3 legged stool; 1. Raw food diet, 2. Find an exercise you love so it's not exercise it's fun; and 3. intermittant fasting. By doing those 3 I enjoy wearing the same size clothes year after year.
How do I eat healthy if I cant eat during the day, due to my IBS?
I found your videos about a month ago and even bought your book. Dropped refined carbs and the grazing life. Weight loss has been slow. I was lamenting that to my daughter and she asked, how do you feel? I realized I feel great! More energy, less digestive issues, no heartburn. And, no cravings! All good🎉
GBR!
Excellent.
I love the exercise tips. Unfortunately I have severe Hashimoto hypothyroidism. I tried IF and keto. I almost fainted at work, lost clumps of hair, my TSH went thru the roof . My hypothyroidism worsened. Not healthy form . It took 8 months to only lose 12 lbs. I’d rather count calories than intermittent fast or keto. Thx for exercise tips.
Thank you so much for your informative, clear, and encouraging videos.
