Hi! My name is Susanne. I am a Christian mom of 3 over 50. Are you struggling to lose weight and feel fit and youthful like you once were? Me too!
My story:
Until I was about 45 years old maintaining my weight was relatively easy. For the past 6 years no matter what I tried I was not able to lose more than a couple of pounds and then I would ultimately gain them back. I felt very frustrated and hopeless.
Back in December of 2023 my weight loss game was changed when I started learning more about insulin resistance and other obstacles that I believe were making it very difficult for me to lose any weight over 50. I created this channel to help other women lose weight by sharing my experiences. I hope you’ll join me in striving to feel better at 50 than you ever have.
To date, I have lost 45 pounds in the last year and a half, the first 10 I lost in the first month and the last 10 in 3 weeks. My goal is to lose 50 lbs total which would put me at 125 pounds at 5’2″. Are you ready to lose the next 10 pounds?
Best of luck!

Hi you look great. I went through a lot of the same things. I'm not 5'2 but did noticed how things started changing at around 51. I became pre-diabetic ( diabetes doesn't run in my family), cholesterol started creeping up, and for years hot flashes and everything else started happening. Please consider checking out the video by Menopause Taylor. She explains how the metabolic diseases of menopause happen when you start losing estrogen. Which are diabetes, high cholesterol and osteoporosis. Yes! we absolutely need to change the way we eat once over 50. I am 66 now and feel great. Consider looking into menopause replacement therapy. You will be glad you did. 🙂
Sounds like.something i did a few years back prior to my 50's, probably mid 30's . Restricted my calories to under 1000 and was feeling fantastic. Never weighed myself but everyone saw the change within a couple of months, then my food scale ran out of battery and that was it. I thought i had learned enough about calories to keep me going but without that military precision, i couldn't do it and gained the weight again. BUT afterward (by age 38) I got diagnosed with hiatus hernia with scarred oesophagus and stricture . Then Hypothyroidism(40's), and high cholesterol, then gall bladder infection and jaundice due to a stone that had blocked my bile duct, one stone had already been lodged in the walls god knows how long. My point is we have to be careful when we decide to be our own experts! My summers of great calorie restriction and rapid weight loss caused alot of health issues that are a part of my life now. Or at best it exasperated underlying conditions which may never have caused me any troubles. Medical advice is there for a reason. Its designed to be balanced and SAFE. My warning is just to be aware that rapid weigh loss is medically known to increase cholestorel and cause gall bladder problems(they're related) and if there is any family health issues at all , you really should work with a medical doctor to check bloods ,heart etc because you never know if you have an autoimmune response that starts a roller coaster. GET HEALTH CHECKS. Work with a doctor. Our bodies are not just a machine. Its a fined tuned system that works on a balanced systems of nutrients etc. DON'T BE YOUR OWN EXPERT. Im 55 now. 5 '1 and weight 92kg. I don't want to yell you how hyporthyroidism affects my weight now but it also requires constant fine tuning. Good luck. Check your health. Ps. Although heavier than you were prior to your weigh loss, i dont look as large or overweight as you did…everyone is so different…

So when you lost the weight you also lost the wrinkles in your neck ?
What so many women don't realize is that a lot of what gets labeled as a menopause problem is actually a blood sugar problem wearing a hormone costume. The fatigue, the belly weight, the mood swings, even the hot flashes can all be driven by blood sugar dysregulation that's been building for years and just becomes impossible to ignore once estrogen starts dropping. I work with women in perimenopause and menopause on exactly this, and when we stabilize blood sugar first, the hormonal symptoms often calm down significantly without changing anything else.

Thanks for posting your weight loss journey and tips on YouTube.❤
I don't know about being shorter, but I follow the way Trim Healthy Mama teaches to eat all food groups without a calorie deficit. They don't count calories. Protein is very important in their plan. It's important for keeping muscle mass, especially after 50. It's the most balanced way of eating that I've ever seen in a "diet". No food groups are excluded.
This is such Truth!!!
Hormones stress everything
I’m sorry, but this is terrible advice. I used to be like this. I used to often eat under 1000 cal and yes I would have weight loss. I would try to eat no more than 1200 to 1300 cal, and I would still lose weight, but yes, the less I ate the more my weight loss was but I mostly stayed between the 1200 to 1300 cal. However, I was miserable and unhappy. It wasn’t sustainable and I would end up giving up. Finally, after seeing other videos that talked about not eating enough to lose weight. I went for it. First I bumped my calories up to 1400, and I still lost weight. I did that for a little bit I think maybe only a week or less and I bumped it up to 1500 cal and I was still losing weight. As long as I was tracking and being true to the calories, the weight was still coming off. I set my goal to 1500 to 1600 cal and I still have good weight loss. Every once in a while, I might eat as low as 1200 to 1300 maybe once or twice a week, but I never go below that because I want to enjoy my life and not starve myself. I like to eat and I like to have a snack at night after dinner. I usually average around 1500 cal per day and I’m losing weight and I’m not feeling deprived. On other days or weekends when I want to splurge a little, I can eat up to 1700 to 1800 and still lose slightly or at least maintain. I’m happy with 1500 cal a day. I feel like I’m eating enough food and I’m choosing foods that are filling. I’m not feeling deprived and it’s sustainable. I’ve noticed when I eat fruits, veggies, and more protein, especially fruits, I have better weight loss and it’s more enjoyable for me. Fruits help to curb my sweet tooth and are very filling and whenever I have a bunch of fruit, I end up having a good weight drop. If you’re happy with this lifestyle, all I can say is more power to you. There’s no way I could do this for very long. You’re hardly eating anything. I calculated what you said you eat with the egg whites and cheese and the chicken thigh and it’s like 800 cal so I can see why you’re struggling to lose weight. Your body is starving and not wanting to let go of the weight because it’s not getting enough nutrition or calories. Good luck and I appreciate the little tips and and I like seeing what other people are eating to lose weight.
Mit einer Serviette trocknest du das Geschirr und Besteck? Du solltest dir Küchenhandtücher zulegen, kann ich nur empfehlen 😉
So happy I found your channel for short perimenopausal women!
I've only seen one other YouTuber mention how hard it is for short people to lose weight.
Hi can you please give me a calorie range you found is helpful for weight loss and your activity if possible thanks
Volume veggie eating with protein will keep full healthy fats & complex carbs.
Have you ever heard of reverse dieting? As a shorter person myself at 5’3 I have been able to use reverse dieting to slowly improve my metabolism to eat up to 1600 calories without gaining body fat. I walk between 10-12,000 steps per day and weight train 3xs per week using progressive overload. More muscle also increases our metabolism. I’m 60 yrs old, hypothyroid and still was able to do this. Also I don’t use the scale as my be all. Rather I take my measurements and pictures every 2 weeks. I don’t think in terms of “weight” loss any longer. Now I think of fat loss and muscle gain. The scale goes up but I don’t freak out when I have the measurements and pictures to prove I have changed the composition of my body. The biggest goal in menopause is surely to increase muscle mass, eat to build muscle mass and lose excess body fat all the while never falling into the trap of chronic under eating which just kills our metabolism over the long term.
That’s actually really interesting, how you ask yourself before going out to eat how many pounds do I want to gain? I like that, it’s keeping things real and taking out the surprises that many of us would use as excuses.
I can easily eat 2000 calories of meat and fat (carnivore) and stay the same which I could not do eating low carb. I am not hungry. I do find in order to lose weight it requires a 36 – 40 hour fast, maybe 1 a week. I switched temp to Hyper-ketosis and have lost 7 lbs in week. But it is very low carb and low fat. I can get away with it because I normally high fat/protein. I am 68 and 5’1” …ish.
Great video, I agree with you about not needing all that protein. How do you make your 10 calorie hot chocolate?
Everything you said is so true. Weight loss plans are not "one size, fits all". I tried eating the recommended protein per meal, and I can't eat all that. I feel like I overate. I hate it that it's so easy for the weight to come back on, for us petite women, and it's even worse when you're like me, post menopausal and dealing with hypothyroidism. I'll be doing well throughout the week, and then comes Fridays, when I visit my parents, and I blow it and it take me 3 days to of being back on track, and for the weight to start coming off again.
I'm only 4'10" tall & weigh about 110 now at 59 yrs. old.
My fat is ALL in my middle/stomach area.☹
When I was younger, my weight was about 98 lbs.
I really want to get down to 100lbs.
