When you say 1/2 cup of black beans… are you saying cooked or uncooked?
Brown rice might be a good fibrous option to white rice??
I have been loving a 3 bean salad with a bunch of cilantro (italian parsley or fine chopped kale) red onion, feta cheese & homemade vinegrette.
I add in chicken or TUNA & avocado its so YUMMY! I make a big batch for the week & its a quick healthy lunch
Why do black or red beans raise blood sugar levels in diabetics?
I’m on zepbounbd. I had constipation so I added beans with my meal and the scale went down and I became regular again. It works!
MEAT AND EGGS THE BEST
As a vegetarian I need to say yogurt, cottage cheese, kefir, tofu, quinoa, buckwheat, eggs, chia seeds & cheese are all complete proteins. You do not have to eat meat or fish to get complete proteins.
Lentils work too!! Yum yum
any thoughts on refried beans?
sooo, is the nutriologist not going to mention the fact that the missing aminoacids in beans are found in complementing foods? such as corn or, you've guessed it, RICE!
thats not even new knowledge, the indigenous people of the americas knew how to combine beans in order to make it a complete meal.
that kind of oversight really takes out the credibility on these videos
videos like this is the reason i stopped giving ppl in-depth dietary advice.. .. most ppl are idiots, my time is precious
You can also use a relatively small amount of beans in a smoothie. Unless you like the taste of a particular type, the blander ones (like white beans) are probably the best choice. And adding other bland veggies also helps cut down on the sugar content of the typical smoothie. Tofu is another option.
The first time I went vegan and started eating lots of beans I gained weight, not really making any of those three mistakes. On attempt 2 , I hit the weights and started power walking and I actually ended up losing weight.
buckwheat is the best
This video doesn't explicitely repeat some major misinformation, but it REALLY implies it and misses the truth.
Pulses, which are the grains from the Legume family and which beans are a part of, are usually lumped in as "bad protein absorption" because of the conflation of "bad absorption" and "incomplete protein". They are not malabsorbed, they are just not complete. Here's the thing, eat them with whole grain cereals; wheat, rice, corn, etc. Beans and whole corn together form a complete protein, and there is no malabsorption. You don't NEED meat to complete the protein, you don't need cheese. If you're vegetarian, that's a bonus too, but for most people the big problem is just that they're deficient of good quality natural fiber, and cheese and meat don't provide fiber.
NO, you don't need to think of beans as starch and disregard them as protein. When I'm trying to lose weight, most of my meals are 1/2 whole vegetables, a little bit more than 1/4 legumes, and a little less than 1/4 whole grain cereal. And there is no protein deficiency. Other people may do a little less vegetables and more beans to get a ratio their body needs, but there's no need for meat. And it's SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than ultra lean meats since they have a price premium.
It sounds like you have a broad understanding of the very surface level talking points, but don't actually understand the whole picture.
That makes perfect sense. Thanks.
Sprouting beans alters that DIAAS score significantly and isn't that difficult a habit to get into !
ALSO, a diet high in methionine is always going to result in a glycine deficiency. So most people are always going to need to add glycine. People used to eat a lot of gelatin for a reason.
So I looked it up and a mere 120 gram of chia seeds contain enough of the recommended daily intake of the 3 missing amino acids (cystine, tryptophan and methionine) that black beans doesn't have. Lots of other alternatives as well. The COMmercial site "myfooddata" makes it easy to look up.
So don't eat all beans add protein like tempeh, but tempeh is made from soybeans. So add beans to beans to make it a complete protein?
Beans are nasty tho
Adding lentils and split peas to a bowl of ground beef has been LIFE changing for my weightloss goals.

Complete protein is a myth. We need all essential amino acids, but we don’t need them present in every meal.
As a diet and nutrition expert, you should know that beans are not healthy. They are dead! Beans are HEALTHFUL. They confer health onto you, but they themselves are not healthy.
i also recommend adding butter to your diet. it’ll help with digestion, energy, and hormone regulation. like the proteins, there are necessary fatty acids.
https://fdc.nal.usda.gov/food-details/173735/nutrients your black beans need a few additional amino acids, like Cystine Alanine and Tyrosine. When eating protein. there are 9 essential amino acids. your body can synthesize the remaining 11.
I’ve eaten beans for 30 years by shoving them up my ass and you’re telling me I’ve been doing it wrong!?!?
You suggest tempeh as an alternative to using beans as a main protein source, but tempeh IS beans. It's fermented soy beans. Is the fermentation making a big difference there?
Also, any thoughts on seitan?
As i have read in other places beans + rice provide a complete essential amino acid profile – so a complete protein. So it makes sense to eat beans and rice. This SHOULD have been mentioned by a nutritionist when pointing out proteins so much.
Does Lentil work?
@00:56 beans receiving a honorable mention says a lot. If you are a 70’s or 80’s baby that’s like a participation award due to attendance. No bueno
Be careful with all those degrees. The things they teach you today often turn out to be lies they always knew were lies 20 years later.
