Are you worried that dropping to one meal a day will slow your metabolism? Find out why this isn’t the case!
0:00 Introduction: Will intermittent fasting cause a slow metabolism?
0:23 Low-carb diets and your metabolism
0:39 What causes a slow metabolism?
0:52 Keto and intermittent fasting
In this video, we’re going to talk about the effects of intermittent fasting on your metabolism, specifically when dropping to one meal a day (OMAD).
People often worry that they will slow their metabolism when dropping to one meal a day. As long as you’re doing keto, OMAD will not slow your metabolism.
When you’re doing a low-carb diet like keto, you’re tapping into your body’s fat reserve. Although you will be consuming fewer calories from food, you will be utilizing calories from your body’s fat stores.
If you’re on a low-calorie, high-carb diet, you will not be able to tap into your body’s fat reserve. This will ultimately slow your metabolism.

What if it’s 500 calories?
Your the best Dr Berg.
Love it sweet & simple, Thank you, I appreciate you too.
We appreciate you too Dr.Berg 🙏🏻🥰
So what happens when low calorie high carb diet when you run out of carbs to burn? Doesn’t body go after your fat and muscle? How’s that different? Please help
I wish we had definitive, agreed upon answers with OMAD and BMR. I was under the impression that doing KETO OMAD won't lower your BMR because of what Dr. Berg says. The insulin level is low, therefore the fasting window of 20-24 hours between OMAD will allow your body to take the fuel you need from your fat stores if you don't meat your normal TDEE with OMAD. However, some say that your body absolutely will slow your BMR down if you don't eat your regular amount of calories in that one meal. So which is it??
What if you re on keto but also shreded and have no fat reserves to burn
That's what I have been wondering
Finally i got the answer 😢 thanks doctor
thanks for this. You just answered my question
I eat..TRY..to eat. 7 c veggies a day..full fat mayo ACV dressing with herbs.. a pork chop or tuna or other protein..1/4 c of heavy cream with 5 frozen strawberries 2 Tbsp unseetened almond milk(turns out like soft serve ice cream if you blend it..16oz of homemade Kombucha.. I went from 157 to 140 in 4 weeks…in Menopause!!! I do OMAD…1PM TO 2PM daily i take vitamins..the difference in my skin is wonderful..was able to do a 60hr fast no problem..I FEEL AMAZING
Just because of eating keto / low carb omad, we don’t have to face the metabolism slow down! Why is it?
Nonsense.
Hello, I'm doing omad+keto but I'm only eating less than 1k calories per day.. I'm scared that people told me my metabolism will decrease as my body will learn to adapt as I eat less, my body will slow its metabolism..
Also, people say you will start losing hair when you eat below BMR.. I saw people saying eat Above BMR and Less than TDEE.. is this true?
Thank you for the straight forward answer! I am currently doing carnivore OMAD on most days, and wanted to make sure I wasn't going to be slowing my metabolic rate.
if you are not doing keto, does it mean you should not be doing IF as it slows metabolism?
What if I’m already skinny and have a fast metabolism? Will that cause my body to slow its metabolism while intermittent fasting? I’m 31 and can easily burn carbs, but I’m stopping in order to not spike my blood sugar. I just started eating 3 keto meals in an 8 hour window daily about 2 weeks ago.
Wow good to know
Every video y watch everyone demonise carbs i do omad my meal consist of a good portion of rice (carbs) meat and salad, and im doing really well
I've been doing one meal a day keto for one month now which I love I won't stop but a little discouraged . i hit a plateau and have keto rash 😕
so intermittent fasting with a high carb diet does lead to a slowed metabolism? even if you keep the period of not eating quite long? (OMAD, 24, 48 hours) i thought IF itself was the key to allowing your body to tap into its fat stores since you aren't eating often enough to keep insulin high
But what about when you get to your goal weight and have no more fat reserves to burn? So OMAD shouldn’t be done after you hit your goal weight? Then it would caloric restriction and that would slow your metabolism?
Thank you for answering my question in a really simple and straightforward way!
What if you dont combine keto but have relatively low carb diet?
Can you do a video on omad and pkr response? Does it cause inflammation?
I read that if you do keto too long it will destroy your thyroid , any thoughts on this ?
Thanks! I was super curious about this but it makes sense
Bless your heart for the short videos!!
Most videos blabber endlessly before they get to the point
Some blabber so much they even forget to answer the question they pose on the title!
omg. I stopped doing carnivore & keto because I physically couldn't eat more than 1100 calories a day. I was sure that my body was going into starvation mode which I knew wouldn't be healthy. This finally makes sense. Thanks for clarifying!
I have been doing omad w/keto for several years. Over the summer I consumed carbs, gained about 7 lb, however still maintained omad. Approximately 2 months ago I got back on keto. I'm not losing any weight. What could I do to rev up my metabolism? Thank you!
If I take 3500 calories In omad than ?
Hi Dr. Berg thanks for informative videos. They helped to lose 10 Kg and 6 inches on waistline in exactly 10 weeks with KETO and IF of18 hours to 22 Horus and OMAD. Was at 68Kg now 58kg . I am 38 years old and want to get lean so my journey to lose bad weigh and gain muscle weight is on. And love to go through your videos everyday. They motivate me to not give up.
Thank you…you are appreciated
What if you don't do keto with omad or what if you still do low carb, but not keto
Your metabolism will slow because eventually it will get used to what your doing so I suggest going 3 weeks omad 1 week regular healthy eating so when you get to your goal weight you won’t gain all the weight back .
Bam ! There it is.
Thanks for the information! I was trying to eat more to reach 1000-1200 calories a day in case my metabolism slows down. I am so glad that I don’t have to binge anymore.
I've been doing OMAD for 3 days now. Feeling great but after I ate I felt horrible because I tend to over eat because I'm afraid I'm going to be hungry the next day. Wonder what I should do about this. Eat less? feel more hungry? not sure what to do.
Call me stupid, but I genuinely don't understand when you say " with high carb diet, you wont tap into your fat reserves" … as in never? let's say I eat 1000 calories of high carb and then I fast, at some point the body will go through those carbs, right? I mean you cant just be running on 500-600 cals of carbs …forever. What am I missing here? I presume nothing. Being stuck at 140 lbs and couldn't get a flat belly no matter what diet I tried, I suffered a severe gastritis (stomach inflammation) some years ago, living off mostly fruit yogurt, jello, crackers with PB/jelly and drinking peppermint tea or gatorade cause even water hurt if it wasn't warm. When i had started healing my weight was 97 lbs with my clothes and shoes on, no belly fat, and no Keto. what happened here Dr berg?
keto omad did slow my metabolism, it didn't happen straight away took 6-8 weeks
Great video
THIS is the info I was looking for… I suspected this was true, but couldn't find anyone who addressed it quite this way.
So helpful!
Will this also apply to people doing OMAD who are not actively trying to lose weight? Can I still eat 1000 calories a day if I have less body fat?
Thanks
In one of you videos you said every diet slows your metabolism. I think this is a caveat.
I really appreciate you too Doc.
I want to lose weight, too, but fast, which is known that makes you lose muscle and retain fat.
Thank you for this…..I was just pondering this question today!
