Weight Loss After 40: 3 Rules You Need to Know

Weight loss after 40 and menopause weight gain: why does losing weight feel so different now, and where does intermittent fasting fit? Dr. Jason Fung, physician and New York Times bestselling author of *The Hunger Code*, breaks down three rules for simplifying the way we think about weight loss, from cutting back on ultra-processed foods to creating an adequate fasting period.

We also get into one of the biggest frustrations women have in perimenopause and menopause: eating the same, working out just as much or even more, and still gaining weight. Dr. Fung explains why hormones matter, why calories don’t tell the whole story, and what women can actually focus on instead.

If you’ve been wondering why your old approach to weight loss suddenly isn’t working, this conversation may change the way you think about food, fasting and your body after 40.

  1. Instant oats are not ultra-processed. Oat flour is in NOVA group 2 (culinary ingredients), not NOVA group 4 (ultra-processed). Instant oats are not ground to a fine dust, and they are arguably less processed than flours. Instant oats can be made with additional ingredients like nuts, berries, protein, and healthly fats, which all help slow the blood sugar rise.
