Here are 5 things we’re done doing.
1️⃣ Stop skipping breakfast and running on coffee. Get some protein in early. A protein-rich breakfast can help with fullness, makes it easier to hit your protein needs across the day, and gives your body another opportunity to support muscle.
2️⃣ Stop treating cardio like your entire fat-loss plan. Walk. Bike. Take the class if you love it. But get on a structured strength program at least 3x/week. Progressive resistance training helps preserve and build lean mass, which becomes increasingly important through midlife.
3️⃣ Stop being afraid of carbs. You do NOT need to go low-carb because you’re in perimenopause. Carbohydrates fuel harder training and provide foods rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals, fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grains. Choose mostly high-quality sources and eat an amount that fits your overall needs.
4️⃣ Stop living on ultra-processed food and calling it “healthy” because the package says protein. Build most of your meals around whole and minimally processed foods. They generally make it easier to get enough protein, fiber and micronutrients and manage hunger. And if certain sweeteners, sugar alcohols or highly processed foods leave you bloated? Pay attention to YOUR body.
5️⃣ Stop thinking you can white-knuckle this for 12 weeks and go back to your old life. Lock the f*ck in. Build boundaries around your health. Make time to grocery shop. Prep some food. Put your workouts on the calendar. Stop starting over every Monday.
Your body is changing in midlife. Your strategy has to grow up with you.
I’m not your everyday menopause weight loss coach. We’re gonna fix the food. We’re gonna get you on a structured strength plan. And then we’re going deeper into the boundaries, stress, mindset and life sh*t that determines whether you can actually keep doing any of it.
