Most carnivore diet advice online is way too simple. People hear “just eat steak” and assume that is enough, but for many people that version of carnivore falls apart fast. In this video, Dr. Eric Westman explains what to eat on the carnivore diet if you actually want it to work. He covers the foods that make carnivore easier to sustain, including fatty red meat, eggs, seafood, salt, and electrolytes, along with the biggest mistakes that make people quit, like eating too lean, undereating, relying on processed meats, overdoing dairy, or ignoring hunger and energy signals. He also explains how to think about fat intake, why electrolytes matter so much in the first week, how to use a simple default meal strategy, and how to build a practical carnivore plate without counting calories or turning the diet into another crash plan. This is a realistic, clinical, and honest guide to making carnivore more sustainable, more nourishing, and more effective for satiety, blood sugar control, and metabolic health.

  1. I'm almost 3 years into the carnivore diet and have switched to Lion diet 3 weeks ago. The problem I'm having and have always had is hard dry stools. It doesn't seem to matter how much extra fat I add to my steaks my stools have never changed. It's making me wonder if this diet is really sustainable….

  2. This is the only carnivore video channel that hasn't made me wish the speaker had done more inner work on themselves. Thanks for being agnostic and individual-based. Just the immaturity of the mindsets have made me not want to try it for myself and this helped remind me why I'm considering it. <3

  3. You really should start around 80% fat and go from there. Carnivore should only really be moderately "high" protein. Add more protein if you are active and experience electrolyte issues.

Carnivore is not a ketogenic diet, and I'd argue keto diets are not something that should be used long term, as that opens you up to those electrolyte problems. People on carnivore can experience this issue if they are spreading out their meals over a day like they normally would rather than having one large meal. Adding protein would help a lot.

  4. Great episode very helpful. My husband and I are planning to do keto for at least a month so we’re in that beginning phase of looking at Dr. Boz outline guide of good better best foods. My husband is type two diabetic and his morning glucose is never under 100 and the past few months it’s been staying closer to 200 because he just stopped being careful so this will help us refocus. to make progress I am in post menopausal phase at 61 and was pre-diabetic a few years ago with at least 30 pounds to lose so we pray this is the tool to help us improve. We actually feel like we’re in good health but we know labs say otherwise, so we wanna do what we can.

  5. We arexsenior on a budget we can't afford steak or roast and also because of missing teeth issues can't chee the steak or roasts. People never address this they just think we can go out and buy all this stuff.

  6. My hardest part was and is, driving around and seeing all the fast food joints that I used to eat at, the main cause of it is being able to afford a $42 ribeye which I cannot do because I will be hungry 3 hours after I eat that ribeye so I have hard boiled eggs and that will only last for so long as well. I used to eat a lot of food and when I say a lot for example go to Burger King and get the double Whopper also get two small cheeseburgers with it large fries and soda two chocolate chip cookies and be hungry two or 3 hours after. So when I tried carnivore last year I lost weight which was good but then I had engagements for outdoor recreational activities where I was not in charge of the food and there you go. The other hard part for me was the consistency trying to stay on a eating the exact same thing of ground beef bacon eggs and shrimp everyday and the shrimp was a luxury may or may not have it

  7. 11:47 "then your body has less reason to store fat" – I don't understand. I thought that's what we wanted! We don't want our bodies to store fat, we want them to burn fat. So what are you saying here?

  8. Do you know that some people can't actually process fats? This is what I discovered on this diet.I hit a massive wall suffering brain fatigue, hypoglycemia.. I'm taking over the counter enzymes to try to fix this. I'm going to try this again but I no longer think my body likes this diet.

  9. 2.5 years and thriving! Red meat is the best but I can eat anything what has a face and a heart beat 😂 Osteoarthritis is gone! Muscles growing while lifting weights, skin looks healthy and shiny… never burn in a sun. Hair grew back! Probably doubled by now. All senses, vision, hearing, sense of smell got enhanced… Testosterone is up. Energy through the roof! And I’m 64! I wish I would have known all what I do now 30 years ago!!! 💪❤️

  10. I’m on day 93 of carnivore. 59 years old, lean, and active.. I had already cut added sugar, and treats for years. Thought I was eating right. But my belly was always distended like my bowels would never empty. And I had pretty heavy brain fog and ups and downs of energy. I went on carnivore, experienced the flu symptoms. Was eating ground beef, eggs, butter, sardines. That was soon reaching points, where I wasn’t eating enough, fat, or drinking enough water. Drinking electrolytes, upset my stomach, rendered fats were upsetting my stomach. My body was starving and I was in survival mode. High cortisol day and night. The breakthrough came when I obtained beef suet from a butcher. That added slow burning high calorie fuel, which I was able to convince my body I wasn’t starving. I lost a lot of weight. But 145 pounds down to 130. And I did lose some muscle because I had no energy to exercise. My energy is coming back and I’m working on gaining some weight. Mind you most people lose 10 pounds just from shedding the water. But I was already leaned to begin with. There is no real discussion among carnivore circles, about people who are already lean and active, and who require lots of calories, and electrolytes. Nobody talks about drinking water, when you only have certain windows, you can drink water, because it conflicts with digestion. I learned a lot how the human body works. BUT: I do not crave sugar, or any of the old things I loved such as ice cream, chocolate. I had a 6 to 8 cup of coffee, have it a day, and I lost my taste for coffee for many months. Now I have one cup of coffee in the morning with butter and that’s it. Shopping for me is simple now, I don’t stare at the fridge and look for a snack. I don’t walk by a bakery and get enticed by the smell. I actually eat for hunger, and not pleasure.

  11. Make your own ‘carnivore’ diet.
Have a few ‘cheats’ so you don’t feel punished.
I avoid most carbs and most sugars.
My arthritis is ‘healing’ after only two weeks.
But I still have the occasional ’cheat’.
I did start with too much fat which caused very loose 💩
But I have UC so I already have a compromised gut.
As for the hardest part, certainly not other people’s opinions.
I don’t give a rats ass what others think.

  12. One of the worst things you can do is to try to become a missionary for carnivore in places and with people it's not welcomed. And probably the worst are those you try to speak of it with who are in an acute state of bad health. Maybe they just had a heart attack or a stroke, or they just got through with a battery of tests and now have a prognosis and a medical doctor giving them a new medication. This is where they're going to be the most brainwashed against trying anything different or new. With those people, suggest it down the pike of life, in the future…

  13. I love carnivore even if I'm not good at sticking to it, my problem is undereating. I can't eat eggs very often. I have no problem living on burger patties, in fact, I love burger patties more then steak, I do eat a good steak now and again, but I just cant get enough food because I get so full so fast and stay full. I'm still playing around with it because I feel so good on it, but I have given up over the last few months and am feeling it. I know, I know, I know……. but…… I also get frustrated with zero weight loss. Which also leads me to giving up. But this video was good. I enjoyed it.

  14. Humans (and humanoids) have been eating meat for 2.5+M years… that seems like a long time to me. There is plenty of evidence and studies that confirm that we are supposed to eat meat as our primary food source, with all others being supplementary in nature. The problem is that we (unlike other animals) don't understand that we need food to fuel our bodies. To our detriment, we have the ability to choose what we eat… no other animal has that ability. They eat what they instinctively know to eat, and they are healthy as a result of that.

  15. You probably should re-edit this video, at 11:45 you say “you may be adding so much dietary fat that your body has less reason to store it”….. You really meant to say “your body has more reason to store it”.

I love your videos, you always come across as sincere and genuine. Thank you.

  16. I’ve been on straight ribeye diet for two years. I freaking love those things, they’re always good tasting to me. I drink about 60 ounces of half concentration relyte every day, and double that on the big PT days.

  17. There wasn't a hardest part. I was in agonising pain with a torn rotator cuff. I googled "anti-inflammatory diet". Got Dr Ken Berry. Had nothing to lose but my pain so i dove in. I lost the pain, all of it, more than the shoulder! I loved the simplicity, the disappearance of food noise, constant decision making & food waste. I live alone so i never had to deal with other opinions. I love it. Over 3 years now… The easiest change i ever made…

  18. Hardest part is other's thoughts about my food choices, "we need to eat vegetables and need carbs for energy!!" and when i try to explain the diet to them, unless I spend an hour explaining the whole thing then they don't understand. its exhausting and frustrating. I have spent that hour explaining to several friends / aquaintances and have convinced NO ONE to even try it, and i think i'm fairly convincing. I guess not though!

  19. Biggest challenge was low blood sugar . I suffer reactive hypoglycemia and thought cutting on carbs would help but i found not.. still gets low blood sugar although not hypo but still low to keep me tired all day long…
