In this video, we’re going to talk about how to lose fat and build muscle at the same time.

Exercise is responsible for about 15% of fat loss. Dietary changes make up for the other 85%.

While your diet makes up the bulk of your fat loss, it’s still important to exercise.

The key to building muscle while losing fat is to increase the intensity and volume of your exercise.

If you’re on keto and aren’t exercising, you will stop gaining muscle and possibly even lose muscle mass.

Keep in mind that you need plenty of recovery time and sleep after exercising. If you overtrain without recovering, the benefits of exercise reduce significantly.

Exercise can stimulate growth hormone up to 700%—which helps you build muscle.

The lower your carbs, the more you will lose weight because your insulin level will lower. But, insulin is also essential for the growth of muscle. If you increase your carbs to build muscle, you’ll also stop losing fat. So what can you do to both build muscle and lose fat?

Increasing your protein can help increase insulin without stopping fat loss—if you get the right balance. Try around 8oz of protein per meal.

Fasting is the most important thing for losing weight because it brings your insulin levels down. If you’re doing intermittent fasting, you can handle more protein without cause fat gain. Fasting can increase growth hormone by up to 2000%. Just make sure you have 1-1.5 tsp of sea salt and plenty of potassium and magnesium per day while fasting, or you won’t have the energy to exercise.

    1. Exercise (intensity + volume) with recovery time
    2. Carbs (between 30g-50g)
    3. Protein (8ounces per meal)
    4. Fat (don't go below 75g)

  2. I have been doing recomp for 3 months. I have been stable at my weight, but lossed fat and gained muscle. But below 50gr of carbs is insane. I probably eat at least 200gr of carbs every day.

  3. In your other video you told about 1 gram protein per kg of body weight for muscle building but in this video you are telling to take more than 8 ounces of protein per meal, it's 230 grams of protein. Can you clear my doubt?

  4. Why talk about carbs and fat in grams but protein in ounces and then salt in teaspoons? Wouldn’t it be easier to understand if you stick to one unit of measurement throughout?

  5. I have lost decent amount of fat Alhamdulillah after watching your and Dr Jason form videos from the next week inshallah I will follow this video to build muscle muscle thanks doctor berg ❤ love from Indian Muslim .

  6. At first I was skeptical about fasting while muscle building, but understanding that it trains the body to maintain muscle mass far better, it all makes sense. But I still need to eat enough to build when my body needs it. So I cyclical fasting after the building phase is done has worked best for me, as opposed to OMAD, which has too negative an effect on my energy level to exercise with sufficiently get the best results, regardless of elecrolytes. I can tell the difference between building phase hunger and "addictive" hunger.

  7. Ain’t got time to measure carbs and protein. I do IF eat between 12-6)
Low carbs , protein and veggies. I make sure my 2 meals have all the above. I only drink water so my calories don’t come from liquids unless it liquor on the weekends 😊
I’m 49, the fittest I’ve ever been. I love looking good naked, that’s what keeps me going

  8. Carnivore/Keto (more fat, more proteins, less carbs) + Intermittent Fasting + Excersise (cardio + weights + resistance + flexibility) + Sleep recovery + Select supplements (electrolytes + amino acids + vits).

Reduce visceral fat (mostly) and some subcutaneous fat , avoid losing water/fluids, muscle mass , bone mass. Target fat composition of around 10%.

  9. Hi Dr Berg. Attempting to follow your advice as best I can. 12am to 6pm window. 76yo Ectomorph 6ft 74kg Sarcopenia well and truly taking hold. Gym 3 day weight program with two days of LITT. Apart from maintaining and or regaining lost muscle am keen to remove about an eighth of an inch of flab covering my abs(I can feel but not see them) and get rid of stubborn love handles. I was in a dilemma about the very issue you raised. Muscle gain versus fat loss through Intermittent Fasting. I will persevere. So thank you for the video. Will a cup of tea with one spoon of sugar first thing in the morning interfere with any progress I am likely to make?
