Why do women respond to fasting differently than men? In this discussion with Steven Bartlett (The Diary of a CEO), we explore how fasting, like the warrior fast, can negatively impact women’s blood sugar control, sleep, and thyroid function. Learn why circadian rhythm-based fasting strategies work better for women and how to improve metabolic health without compromising recovery.

Every time I would do a long fast 18 hours plus I would feel weaker. My energy levels would drop. I would have low blood sugar even though I was taking electrolytes. I’m really looking into reconsidering this fasting thing.
So you are saying since women have the dna to grow another human being, fasting is NOT good for our bodies period! This is why I lost weight eating three times a day no snacking VS prolonged fasting! I lost weight by eating at 8am special K cereal with blueberries, 2pm I ate 6ounces of meat protein baked or fried with a salad, an homemade ranch Greek yogurt dressing. I walked 45 to 60 minutes between 4-5pm and had my last meal at 6pm I ate the same thing I had for breakfast or my 2pm meal. I kept it simple and on repeat. I lost 30lbs in 2 months. My meat protein consisted of 1 piece of baked or fried chicken breast, thigh, 2 drumsticks, 5 piece chicken nuggets, 5 chicken wings or 1 fish fillet. I even ate any Fast Food Kids meal. I lost weight by being in a calorie deficit and I did not count calories because eating 1 piece of meat/ 6 ounces, at 2pm and at 6pm is a no brainer that I will be in a calorie deficit. I did this 7 days a week until my body composition changed, which took 2 months. Oh yea I drink regular soda, lemonade crystal light water packets or water. No diet sodas. If I ate fried protein, I drank crystal light and vice versa. I also ate popcorn on the weekends lol if you do this to drop 30 lbs, do it between late February and early May. Why because those are the calm and boring months of the year lol
Does she never wear make up ? That in itself is soooo liberating to see. Strong is the new beautiful ❤
THANK YOU
Is this just for women over 40? Regardless of obesity or not? Or is this for women of all ages?
I just can't eat within half hour of waking up. I need a couple of hours to build up my appetite.
Its a bit of a sin those glucose monitors so expensive. People would know exactly how their blood sugar affected by diet and activity. My state have to ALREADYbe a dieabetic to qualify for a discount one. Last time i checked retail is 200 new plus a new $150 senaor every month
You mean men and women aren't the same!? That's transphobic.
I get more hungry throughout the day if I eat breakfast.
She is absolutely describing me!
20+ is amazing for my auto immune flares. Interestingly I now have regular periods for the 1st time in 30 years. I tend to cycle through different eating windows though…having a life is important. But eating carbs and eating breakfast, lunch, dinner is like throwing petrol on my inflammation. I end up with a 3 day fast to bring it down again.
Sitting watching this having a protein coffee ❤
Wish I had this information years ago!
Long story short: Cortisol.
I’m a woman and have done a lot of extended fasting and lost a lot of weight. I’ve done 40 day water fast and everything in between. It has done nothing, but improve my health mentally, physically, and spiritually. I’ll do fast for the rest of my life. Maybe, it’s not for all women, but for me, myself and I, this is BS.
Thank you THANK YOU Dr Sims n Dr Mindy for bringing this up .. n YOUTUBE at least after 7 yrs of screwed up body with erratic trendy fasts that spoiled my body. It IS different for women n men
N no one bothered to mention that until these 2
Im fasting and i always eat first thing in the morning
Makes so much sense. I have never felt good fasting or lost weight.
OMG! This is getting so complicated 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
I could not agree more! I never bought into the intermittent fasting for myself. Have strength trained all my adult life and literally sailed through menopause. I eat within 15 minutes of my feet hitting the floor, is what I always say.
Glucose Goddess states that peri menopausal women's insulin is more sensitive. The same foods and amounts that you used to eat while you were younger is spiking your blood sugar more than it did before resulting in weight gain.
Dr. Sims, what about post menopausal women? Same applies? ❤
I get annoyed that most of the info out there is just men saying this and that, what about for women!? Please don’t generalise the whole human race just because it applies to men
My bf likes to fast I tried it and said I don't like it, I have to eat my breakfast in the morning. I didn't know there was a scientific reason behind that.
No way
Thank you for the great explanation on woman and fasting.
Thank you for this revelation Dr Stacey ❤
Fasting only made me gain weight
thank you for your hard work. your research is so important. i allready have changed so much in my life. next step for me is fitness. i will look up what you find out what work out is best for women ❤❤❤
Whoa, this explains so much!
Confused. CF Dr Mindy Pelz.
Also, when I do 36 hour fasts, with a fasted training session within that period, I feel phenomenal.
🤔
I'd like to know if this applies to women after they hit menopause.
I appreciate hearing about differences in fasting approaches and outcomes for women and men! I could see that my results don't add up and hormonal destabilisation was a sign that something is wrong.
This is such important information to spread. I did omad for probably around 6 months, lost a lot of weight but was incredibly tired and basically would pass out after eating dinner. I then transitioned to trying not to eat till after 12 pm but I was obsessed with thinking about food. Also during this time I was going hard at the gym. I ended up losing so much hair it was insane , my periods got incredibly light and in the morning it was hard for me to stand in the shower. I have been eating breakfast for 8 months now after that and I have a halo of new hair growth and feel so much less anxious. I really think this is such a great message you’re getting out there and more women need to hear it!! Thank you
I am wondering what Jason Fung and other fasting gurus have to say to that, it’d be great to have a round table discussion on this because there is such contradictory information out there. Even if I understand the concept of sex differences and clinical population other physicians and physiologists have to say would be great.
Ooh i always knew that somehow men's body are.more resilient to extreme changes than women's.body. it was always just an intuition so thanks for bringing awareness to the topic😊
Because research has been done by men on men for men. We were just property to be used and exploited in older times.
I tried fasting and was absolutely miserable. I was starving until one and would wake up with night sweats. I started eating first thing in the morning and having three meals a day. The weight fell off and now I’m actually sleeping through the night.
Glad I listened to my body. Every time I tried fasting more than just a late breakfast I end up getting a cold. Means that it’s too stressful. I can do a 12 but that’s about it.
Hai, I'am 66 and For 4 years now I do the 16:8 fasting method. I did not loose weight at all. In that time window I tried carnivore and loosed 4 kilo's and than it stopped again. Eating Keto in the same time window as above now and still don't loose weight. Can anyone tell me what is the best way how and when to eat at my 66 age as a woman…???
I wonder if this changes post menopause? I am female but do well fasting for 12 to 16 hours but don't know if it creates unknown problems.
I would live to witness a conversation between you and Dr. Mindy Pelz. Any chance someone can make that happen?
I have listened to the podcast with Dr Mindy Pelz from her channel (the long version, not shorts) and it seemed like you agreed that there is a place for fasting (probably dinner if you eat before exercising in the morning and then eat again after exercising).
So which one is it? Is all fasting data based on science on men or is there a way to implement it as a pre-menopausal (20s/30s) woman without impacting health?
