Biomedical scientist Dr Rhonda Patrick reveals the hidden fat that most people don’t know they have, even if they look lean and healthy. She explains that visceral fat wraps around your liver, kidneys, and intestines deep inside your body where you can’t see or pinch it, and that it doubles your risk of early death regardless of what you weigh on a scale.
She shares the data showing that the average 30-year-old man carries 1.2 pounds of visceral fat, rising to 2.7 pounds by age 60, and that 70% of women and 50% of men over 50 have dangerously high amounts. She explains that this fat is metabolically active, constantly secreting inflammatory molecules that raise your cancer risk by 44%, cause brain fog and lethargy by diverting energy away from your brain, and make you insulin resistant by blocking the signal that tells your organs to absorb glucose.
She cites a study in which healthy young men sleeping just four hours per night gained 11% more visceral fat in only two weeks without gaining a single pound on the scale. She describes a second study in which healthy young men given 1,200 extra calories per day from ultra-processed food developed signs of fatty liver and became insulin-resistant after just five days.

Dear friends,
I write this with real affection for this space and a deep respect for the passion that lives within it. I appreciate that people here care enough to speak up, to challenge, and to hold high standards. That is not a flaw; it is part of what makes this community worth belonging to.
May I offer another perspective, with humility?
What some encountered was a brief piece of content designed to point towards something much larger … a full conversation made available to everyone without a financial barrier. I have seen no requirement to pay, no condition placed on access, and no expectation that anyone must contribute in order to take part. Our host has kept the door open to all.
So I find myself wondering, gently, why a considerable portion of this space responded with such sharpness towards someone whose only aim appears to be to share more. If the central promise is that something meaningful is being brought to everyone, then that promise deserves to be considered with fairness.
I am not writing to scold. I am writing because a community is shaped by how we speak when we feel strongly. Passion is welcome. Disagreement is welcome. But harshness is not the same as discernment, and certainty is not the same as wisdom. Let us choose the higher road, I mean, not because we lack conviction, but because our conviction deserves a better delivery.
Before any of us writes again, perhaps we might read our own words as if they had come from someone else. Would we recognise patience? Would we recognise generosity? Would we recognise the kind of leadership we hope to receive? If the answer gives us pause, that pause is not a defeat obviously. It is an opportunity to rethink, to refine, and, where needed, to correct ourselves with grace.
And so, THAT is how trust is built. That is how maturity sounds. And that is how we become the community we claim to be. 🙂

The more recent studies show that vigorous exercise like running, biking, swimming, and other intense activities, where you are rapidly and deeply breathing, are connected to burning sugars instead of fat. This is because the body's reaction to more stressful exercise is to release cortisol, which causes the body to essentially sound an alarm, telling it to keep your fat stored. Moderate exercise like walking actually burns fat because the stress hormone, cortisol is not released. After about 15 minutes of walking, the body triggers fat burning for the remainder of the duration you perform that exercise. Vigorous exercise is great for cardio health and can add years to your longevity and moderate exercise is great for fat burning. I've learned to implement both into my routine. Weight training is anaerobic and by adding more lean muscle mass to your body, you increase calorie burning in general and burn fat. I'm over 50 and I wish I had known this 20 years ago when my younger, more chiseled body, with a naturally high metabolism was was beginning to wane.

She's a robot. No caring therapeutic words. I'm not saying to kiss anyone's ass. But she just lost 3/4 of people she could have helped.

Can’t sleep unless I’m full before going to bed
Click bait. Dude, 2.6m clips subscribers and 19m subs on the main channel, and you still have to do this? How much money do you need to earn to have a moral compus?
So if an 80yr old ate McDonald's frequently, for years and years. He should be just one big blob of walking, talking, visceral fat?🤔
