If you have a big celebration coming up, like Christmas or a Birthday, it’s likely that you’ll be planning a large meal or feast for the festivities. In this video, I’m going to show you how to avoid weight gain after a feast so you can enjoy it without feeling guilty or worrying about adding extra pounds.
What To Do 24 Hours Before The Big Meal (0:42)
In preparation for your big meal, you’ll need to take a few steps the day before to set yourself up for avoiding weight gain after a feast. The 2 main things to remember are to eat very low carb at each meal the day before and to stay super hydrated. Your low carb meals will basically be a healthy mix of protein, veggies, and healthy fats.
Staying low carb the day before will deplete the levels of carbs in your muscles and liver. This will allow you to indulge in the meal without worry of overloading your levels to a point where you’ll end up gaining excess fat. Staying hydrated will help you to get rid of excess water beforehand, and help you to avoid water retention during and after the big feast too.
What To Do On The Day Of The Feast (1:48)
On the day of the feast, you should make sure to get a strength training workout in at some point before the big meal. Your body processes nutrients (especially carbs) very differently after a workout, so strength training before a large meal will set your body up for processing the high level of carbs directly into your muscles, rather than your fat cells. This will help you avoid weight gain over the holidays.
Also, if the feast is early enough in the day, you can fast leading up to it. Fasting will further deplete your carb stores and will help you avoid weight gain during the holidays. You should still drink lots of water, green tea, or black coffee during the fast, which will curb your hunger and keep you hydrated at the same time. If you can’t fast, then remain on low carb meals for breakfast and/or lunch on the day of the feast.
You should also weigh yourself, so you know what weight you should be back at after the feast.
What To Do On The Day After The Feast (4:06)
One of the first things you should do the day after a big feast is to weigh yourself again. This is something we recommend anyway, but after a big meal, it serves as a data point that tells you how much weight you’ve gained. Weighing yourself yesterday set the benchmark, so today it’s about taking steps to avoid holiday weight gain and getting back to that previous weight as quickly as possible.
In spite of what you might think, extra weight the day after a big feast will not be fat. It’s most likely water retention from high carbs and salt, and fecal matter caused by a lack of bowel movements. The aim of the day after a big meal is to get back to the weight you were before it. If you followed the previous steps, this won’t be too hard.
The next thing to do is to fast until at least lunchtime. This will help your digestive system relax and increase your metabolism. You should continue to drink lots of water, green tea, or black coffee, so your liver is clean and able to metabolize the additional calories. That will be how to lose holiday weight gain.
Once you start to eat again, you should stick to meals that include a lot of leafy green vegetables and high fiber foods. This will help to get your bowels moving and clear out the extra pounds that you’ve gained through natural retention. It will also help you feel less bloated and again, help your digestive tract relax.
In case you have any digestive issues with Gluten or Dairy, you can use digestive enzyme supplements or magnesium supplements. These have a calming effect and help to ease digestive stress. I hope this information has been helpful and has shown you how to prevent holiday weight gain after a big meal.

What a brilliant video. Moving the topic away from being about the meal, the feast, itself and instead towards the days around the day is really smart. It’s so much easier to envision being in control of my diet before and after the party instead of thinking about how much I might deny myself at the party itself. There’s so much more ability to control one’s diet on days other than family party days and the like. Well done.
Watching this before the Christmas meal. Very helpful. Great informative video
Thanksgiving was yesterday. I did all of these tips on my own except low carb the day before. But now I know to do low carb today. Thanks!
JUST GET TO THE POINT

Hi Anthony..your videos are amazing. Could you please make a video on how we can improve our metabolism, what can increase it, what can make it worst, plus whatever you can add on this. Thanks in advance 🙂
Hey Doc what do you think of hemp seeds
Dr. , Are you for Keto or against it?
I never get weight so I eat as much as I can of course avoiding sweets
this made me sooooo hungry
Everybody want to eat big but want to avoid weight. Health is wealth. So eat as much as you want and don't gain weight.
Thank you for this video. When I want to move my bowels I take 8-10 ounces of Magnesium Citrate and about 15 ounces of water. The solution migrates the water to my lower GI and acts as a catalyst towards motility. This is best done the night before.
I like to eat big! Helpful info
I'm on the keto program for 18 months , low carbs diet, so far i lost 150 pounds, 20 lbs to go..
This is a great video to share with my son. Thank you
I am no fan of fasting, but rather control my diet and drink plenty of water. Your idea of workout before big meals is good idea. Some big parties coming up during Christmas time.
Wow this is good info lol
Great information about How To Avoid Weight Gain After A Big Meal.I will try to follow your instructions.
I've got a work buffet lunch tomorrow, and I know I'm going to overeat! So this is great timing, and great content.
Luckily, I'm already in fasting mode over the past few hours, and I'm starving as I'm heading to bed. I'm planning a low-carb breakfast, and some protein if I absolutely need something before the buffet (I need some energy so I can work). and then I'll try to fast through to the next morning.
